Russia has extended its gasoline export ban until the end of October, as fuel shortages and soaring prices grip parts of the country. The move comes amid repeated Ukrainian drone strikes on refineries, which have disrupted production and strained supplies.
The Russian government announced Wednesday that the temporary ban on gasoline exports—first imposed in late July—will now run until October 31. Officials say the measure is aimed at stabilizing domestic prices, which have surged to record highs in recent weeks. The shortages have hit hardest in Russia’s Far East and Crimea, where some gas stations ran dry, rationed fuel, or sold only to select customers. In the Primorye region, prices spiked to nearly $10 a gallon on secondary markets, far beyond the reach of many households. Read More
BMW Group achieves breakthrough to use natural fibre composites in series production.
How natural fibres are making their way from the race track into series production – and helping reduce CO2e emissions from vehicles even further in the future. Renewable materials have already been used in motorsport at the BMW Group, but now natural fibre composites are making their way into series vehicles too. After many years of intensive research and development work, #naturalfibrecomposites have now reached series maturity at the BMW Group. Renewable raw materials were first used to make innovative reinforcements in 2019, when BMW M Motorsport introduced them in its Formula E cars. But natural fibre composites are now set to be used in future series production as well. Developed to maturity, natural fibre composites even meet the rigorous requirements for roof structures in overall vehicle homologation.
Lightweight engineering has been a key focus of development work for many years at the BMW Group, and the integration of lower-CO2e natural fibres into composites has gradually gained traction. Tests show that these kinds of materials are best-suited for visible exterior and interior components. The BMW Group’s collaboration with the Swiss clean tech company Bcomp aims to reduce CO2e emissions from cars even further in the future. Read More

The new BMW iX3 underscores the BMW Group’s holistic approach to enhancing product sustainability across the entire life cycle.
In product development, a wide range of measures were implemented throughout the supply chain, production and vehicle use phase with the clear aim of saving resources and reducing the model’s environmental footprint. Extensive decarbonisation measures in the supply chain mean break-even is now achieved sooner: when charged with electricity from the European energy mix, the CO2e footprint of the new BMW iX3 50 xDrive is lower than that of a comparable model with a combustion engine after about 21,500 kilometres (WLTP combined). When charged exclusively with electricity from renewable sources, the BMW iX3 50 xDrive beats a comparable combustion-engine model after only 17,500 kilometres (WLTP combined), allowing customers to potentially achieve CO2e benefits in as little as one year. The BMW iX3 was developed systematically according to the principle of Design for Circularity. It consists of about one-third secondary materials. The fabric, adhesive and fleece in the Econeer seat covers in the Essential interior trim package, for example, are made of PET. But there are also other components that contain secondary materials, such as the wheel carriers and swivel bearings, which are 80 percent secondary aluminium, and the cast aluminium wheels at 70 percent. The raw material for the engine compartment cover and the storage compartment under the front hatch consists of 30 percent maritime plastics from old fishing nets and ropes. BMW Group produces the BMW iX3 at its new plant in Debrecen, Hungary. Read More

Drax is being investigated by Britain’s financial watchdog about where it gets the wood from that it burns to create electricity. It follows accusations by a former Drax insider in March that the company had misled over its sourcing of wood for biomass pellets. The London-listed company denied those claims. It said it would “co-operate with the FCA as part of their investigation” on Thursday.
Drax, which used to burn coal at its Yorkshire power station, now receives multimillion-pound subsidies from energy bill-payers to burn woody biomass pellets. The UK government supported this switch as a way to clean up power supplies, and classed the resulting bioenergy as renewable.
But that status and the enormous subsidies have been disputed by campaigners and some scientists who fear bioenergy is less green than thought, based on its impact on forests and the years needed for its emissions to be offset. Read More .
India’s crude imports are projected to fall by 0.3mbd m-o-m to 4.3mbd in August. Based on 9-year seasonal trends, arrivals of crude into India are typically the lowest in August. Domestic demand for gasoline and diesel used in road transport and agriculture decreases amid the monsoon season which begins in June and peaks in July-August. As such, most refineries conduct planned maintenance and reduce crude throughput during this period.
The reason behind this year’s decline is different. India’s lower crude imports this month were mainly due to the decrease in flows into Nayara Energy’s refinery. Analysing crude arrivals into India by port, it is evident that the major decline in arrivals occurred at Vadinar, where Nayara Energy’s refinery oil terminals are located. In fact, crude imports into Vadinar have fallen steadily for two consecutive months since July. Read More
.Abu Qir Fertilizers and Chemical Industries posted a 31% decline in its net profit for the fiscal year ending in June 2025 compared to the previous year to settle at EGP 9.34 million, according to a statement sent by the company to the Egyptian stock exchange. Abu Qir Fertilizers and Chemical Industries is one of the major producers of nitrogenous fertilizer in the Middle East and the world. It is also the largest producer of Nitrogen fertilizers in Egypt, exporting different kinds of fertilizers to 40 markets.
The company’s unaudited results included an amendment in the classification of expenses accrued due to the temporary closure of the company’s facilities. While the statement didn’t mention the reasons for the shutdown, it is most probably related to the period when the government stopped natural gas supplies to fertiliser factories due to a shortage in gas imports.
The company’s total sales for the year ending June 30 were EGP 22.91 billion, marking a 24% increase over the previous fiscal year. The company also generated about EGP 3 billion in cash flows from operating activities, compared to EGP 1 billion during the same period last year. Read More

The Targa roll bar’s story is based on technological foresight, stylistic innovation, and a courageous solution to new challenges in car manufacturing. Even during development of the Porsche 901 – later the 911 – it was already clear that there should be an open-top version to complement the Coupé. Representatives of Porsche, Karosseriewerk Reutter, and Karmann got together in 1962 to discuss the different approaches. There were three variants up for debate: a classic soft top, a roadster version with a reduced frame, and a convertible with a fixed roll bar.

Targa roll bar from an original 911 Targa, 2025, Porsche AG
Targa roll bar
It was ultimately the third variant that proved to be the most convincing technologically. Even if the project was initially shelved due to limited capacity, the basic idea had been born. When more stringent regulations for open-top vehicles emerged in the US in the mid-1960s, Porsche was able to respond with a solution it had tucked away in a drawer: a safety convertible with fixed roll bar. The 911 Targa made its debut at the IAA in Frankfurt am Main in 1965 and the 912 Targa became available from the 1967 model year. The first 911 Targa made its debut 60 years ago. Since then, the Targa roll bar has become an iconic component in Porsche history. Read More

It will serve as a decision support tool for operators and will not be designed to carry weapons in the first phase. Read More
Global butane prices are exhibiting strength relative to their regional propane counterparts, atypical for this time of year when the lighter feedstock tends to hold a premium. Part of this could be attributed to current strength in the gasoline complex as global cracks are near their highest levels in months and above year-ago levels ahead of the switch to the winter gasoline blend in the Atlantic Basin, which uses butane as its primary blendstock. However, Vortexa data shows a surge of incoming butane supply to key consuming markets that could cap butane’s strength in the coming weeks. Global butane exports are coming in at a record high of 1.95mbd (+0.21mbd y-o-y) even after August butane arrivals charted a similar high-water mark of 1.92mbd (+0.27mbd y-o-y).
The export push is primarily being led by the Middle East (mainly UAE and Saudi Arabia) and the Med. Interestingly, the US is seeing a m-o-m decline in butane exports (-88kbd) despite recent export capacity additions.
China is the primary offtaker of these butane supplies as the country continues its efforts to further diversify its LPG supply sources, lessening its reliance on the US amid ongoing trade tensions that have yet to be resolved. In the Med, Turkey and Italy are likely calling on barrels for autogas needs, ahead of the official end of summer in late September. . Read More
