London, September 22, 2025, (Oilandgaspress) –––UK Energy Secretary , Ed Miliband is poised to reverse Labour’s ban on new oil and gas drilling amid warnings from union bosses that net zero risks crushing British industry.

The Energy Secretary is preparing to soften a flagship pledge made in his party’s election manifesto not to “issue new licences to explore new fields” in the North Sea after companies blamed the policy for a string of production cuts and job losses. Read More

Researchers at the Institute of Science, Tokyo, in Japan, have announced a breakthrough in hydrogen storage technology.

The team developed a hydrogen battery that can operate at just 90 °C (194 °F), far below the usual 300–400 °C (572 °F – 752 °F) threshold.

The innovation addresses one of hydrogen’s greatest obstacles – safe and efficient storage – potentially opening doors for hydrogen-powered vehicles, renewable energy integration, and carbon-free industries. Solid-state storage using magnesium hydride (MgH₂) offers a promising alternative because of its high theoretical capacity. Yet, until now, MgH₂ systems needed extreme heat to function, with limited reversibility and performance losses. This made them impractical for everyday energy applications. Read More

A US company has just hosted the first of several live demonstrations showcasing its record-breaking drill that is capable of boring into granite using pure energy. Massachusetts-based startup Quaise Energy has taken a massive step towards limitless, clean geothermal power with the first live public demonstration of its millimeter wave drilling system. The demo, held at a granite quarry in Marble Falls, Texas, showed the company’s ability to vaporize rock using high-frequency electromagnetic waves, drilling 387 feet (118 meters) into solid granite without any physical contact. At approximately 387 feet (118 meters), the hole is the deepest ever drilled with millimeter-waves, which are similar to the microwaves used in an oven. The waves were powerful enough to ablate the pink granite into grey ash at the demo site, where samples were made available during the tour.

This enables a radically different form of drilling, which is potentially capable of reaching the superhot, superdeep geothermal layers miles beneath Earth’s surface. Read More

Governments around the world are ramping up coal, gas and oil extraction which will put climate goals beyond reach, new data has shown.

Far from reducing reliance on fossil fuels, nations are planning higher levels of fossil fuel production for the coming decades than they did in 2023, the last time comparable data was compiled. If all of the planned new extraction takes place, the world will produce more than double the quantity of fossil fuels in 2030 than would be consistent with holding global temperature rises to 1.5C above preindustrial levels. . Nissan this month commenced demonstrations of its next-generation ProPILOT advanced driver-assist technology, ahead of its scheduled launch in Japan during FY27. A fleet of all-electric Nissan Ariya-based prototype vehicles demonstrated their ability to drive safely and confidently within the complex urban environment of central Tokyo*.

Combining “Wayve AI Driver” software from Wayve and Nissan’s “Ground Truth Perception” technology leveraging next-generation LiDAR, the next-generation ProPILOT system aims to set new standards for driver assistance technologies.: Wayve’s AI Driver is software that applies cutting-edge embodied AI technology to vehicle driving. It processes image data from onboard camera sensors to enable smooth and safe driving within complex urban environments.

Wayve’s embodied AI has the ability to grasp its surroundings and anticipate what will happen next and how its own actions will affect the environment, allowing it to drive safely in harmony with its surroundings like a skilled human driver. Furthermore, its high-speed processing capabilities allow it to respond immediately to sudden changes in conditions, ensuring it acts safely in real time. Read More

Top natural gas producers and pipeline operators expect the industry and various U.S. states to accelerate approval and development of natural gas infrastructure in the new normal American electricity market of rising demand and consumer bills.

American ratepayers have seen electricity prices rising at a faster pace than U.S. inflation over the past three years. These increases are set to outpace the rate of inflation through 2026, the Energy Information Administration says.

At the same time, the United States has never produced more energy than now, with a record amount in 2024 and rising output of oil and natural gas in 2025, too.

The abundance of energy could help lower electric utility bills for consumers—if there is enough gas linked to powering data centers and manufacturing, the primary growth drivers of U.S. power demand. . Read More

Nigeria is considering stripping its state oil company of its decisive role in managing existing oil contracts and transferring that authority to the upstream regulator, in what could be the most significant shake-up since the 2021 Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).

Under the proposal, contracts currently controlled by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) would move to the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC). Lawmakers say the shift is aimed at plugging “statutory leakages and opaque deductions” that have drained government coffers for decades.

It’s a bold step in a sector where mistrust runs deep. The PIA was supposed to settle the blurred lines between regulator and operator, but critics argue that NNPC’s hybrid role as both commercial player and contract gatekeeper left too much room for manipulation. By putting NUPRC in charge, Abuja hopes to clean up revenue flows and boost badly needed income for the cash-strapped state. . Read More

Daimler Truck and General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) today announced the formation of a strategic partnership to allow for future cooperation in the development, production and service of military logistics vehicles in select markets.

In a recently signed agreement, the two companies committed to strengthening their collaboration in this field. The agreement aims to expand the already tried and tested cooperation they experience within the framework of the Canadian Government’s Logistics Vehicle Modernization (LVM) program, a major contract awarded to them as part of the LVM power team in 2024. The LVM program will deliver more than 1,500 off-road logistics trucks to the Canadian Armed Forces.

The two enterprises intend to tailor their product portfolio even more closely to the requirements of potential customers in other regions and business areas globally and prepare for long-term support with replacement parts and services in the regions concerned. Read More
