Ukraine has captured oil rigs in the Black Sea as Kyiv’s forces deal another blow to Vladimir Putin’s Russian war machine.

Posting on Telegram, the Ukrainian State Border Service (DPSU) released images of the battle for the gas production towers near Snake Island, a Ukrainian territory that lies close to Romania’s east coast. Ukraine’s Boyko Towers are oil and gas drilling platforms located near Crimea in the Black Sea.

Ukraine took them back in September 2023 after Russian forces seized them in 2014 during the occupation of Crimea.

Energy infrastructure has become a crucial part of the conflict. Russia began striking Ukrainian power plants, and Kyiv has since reciprocated with attacks on Russia’s oil facilities.

The Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant was taken by Russia following its invasion in 2022, and has been the scene of fighting and rocket fire since. Read Press Release

Spanning an incredible 3,479 miles, the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline will connect the two nations, with some of the gas also being transported on to Europe. The proposed route for the pipeline will take around the edge of West Africa, passing through Benin, Togo, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, The Gambia and Senegal as it links the two nations.

The huge pipeline, which it is expected will be able to transport up to 10 billion cubic metres of gas from Nigeria every year, is set to cost around £19billion.

Topographical surveys are being carried out in some regions, however it is currently unclear when the pipeline will be completed. Read Press Release

Companies that bring solar power to some of the poorest homes in Central and West Africa are said to be among the fastest growing on a continent whose governments have long struggled to address some of the world’s worst infrastructure and the complications of climate change. The often African-owned companies operate in areas where the vast majority of people live disconnected from the electricity grid, and offer products ranging from solar-powered lamps that allow children to study at night to elaborate home systems that power kitchen appliances and plasma televisions. Prices range from less than $20 for a solar-powered lamp to thousands of dollars for home appliances and entertainment systems. About 600 million Africans lack access to electricity, it said, out of a population of more than 1.3 billion.

Among the companies that made the Financial Times’ annual ranking of Africa’s fastest growing companies of 2023 was Easy Solar, a locally owned firm that brings solar power to homes and businesses in Sierra Leone and Liberia. The ranking went by compound annual growth rate in revenue. . Read more at

European Union countries failed to agree on whether to slap China-made electric vehicles (EVs) with steeper tariffs during a closely watched vote that ended with too many abstentions, forcing the European Commission to overcome the political impasse and push its proposal over the finish line.

The outcome of Friday’s vote was not publicly available, although several diplomats told Euronews how each member state positioned itself:

10 were in favour: Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, France, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, the Netherlands and Poland. (45.99% of the EU population)
12 abstained: Belgium, the Czech Republic, Greece, Spain, Croatia, Cyprus, Luxembourg, Austria, Portugal, Romania, Sweden and Finland. (31.36%)
Five were against: Germany, Hungary, Malta, Slovenia and Slovakia. (22.65%)
The high number of abstentions reflects long-standing qualms about how Europe should stand up to China. Although the political consensus says that Beijing’s unfair trade practices merit a forceful, united response, threats of commercial retaliation appear to have dampened the resolve of many capitals as the make-or-break date neared closer.

It was up to the Commission, which has exclusive powers to set the bloc’s commercial policy, to break the gridlock and ensure the duties go through. The extra tariffs are designed to offset the damaging effects of the subsidies and close the price gap between Chinese and EU firms. Read More

Hyundai Motor Group (the Group) has showcased the use of its ‘X-ble Medical Exoskeleton (X-ble MEX)’ walking rehabilitation robot in aiding the recovery of injured soldiers with the release of a new campaign video titled ‘10M March’.
The video, created in collaboration with the Korean Armed Forces Medical Command, documents the use of ‘X-ble MEX’ at the Armed Forces Capital Hospital and delivers thousands of heart-warming messages of support from the public to the injured soldiers. The ‘10M March’ campaign draws inspiration from the daily rehabilitation routine of injured soldiers, likening the hospital corridor to a long march.
‘10M March’ portrays injured soldiers using ‘X-ble MEX’ to overcome the challenges of rehabilitation. The wearable exoskeleton reduces the physical burden on medical staff and is designed to make the rehabilitation process safer and more manageable.
Donated by the Group to the Armed Forces Capital Hospital last August, ‘X-ble MEX’ is an advanced medical rehabilitation robot developed by the Group’s Robotics LAB. The name X-ble MEX is a combination of the Group’s wearable robot brand ‘X-ble’ and Medical Exoskeleton. The Group’s wearable robot brand X-ble is derived from the term ‘X’, signalling the infinite potential of robotics technology, and the word ‘able’, meaning that anything can be realized.
Developed for the purpose of lower muscle reconstruction, the robot aids walking rehabilitation and supports complex training movements beyond simple walking assistance.
Through a real-time actuator control system, the robot helps patients move independently by assisting them with the strength needed to maintain balance for walking. It also supports various actions such as sitting, standing, walking, rotating and climbing stairs, which greatly enhances treatment efficiency and can motivate patients on their rehabilitation journey.
‘X-ble MEX’ also reduces the burden on medical staff by assisting patient movement. The robot can balance and reduce injury risk, as it lowers the chance of the patient falling backwards. Read More

In the first phase of this partnership, the companies will integrate Waymo’s sixth-generation fully autonomous technology – the Waymo Driver – into Hyundai’s all-electric IONIQ 5 SUV, which will be added to the Waymo One fleet over time.
The IONIQ 5 vehicles destined for the Waymo fleet will be assembled at the new Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) EV manufacturing facility in Georgia and then integrated with Waymo’s autonomous technology. The companies plan to produce a fleet of IONIQ 5s equipped with Waymo’s technology in significant volume over multiple years to support Waymo One’s growing scale. Initial on-road testing with Waymo-enabled IONIQ 5s will begin by late 2025 and become available to Waymo One riders in the years to follow.
“We are thrilled to partner with Hyundai as we further our mission to be the world’s most trusted driver,” said Tekedra Mawakana, co-CEO, Waymo. “Hyundai’s focus on sustainability and strong electric vehicle roadmap makes them a great partner for us as we bring our fully autonomous service to more riders in more places.”

The team at our new manufacturing facility is ready to allocate a significant number of vehicles for the Waymo One fleet as it continues to expand. Importantly, this is the first step in the partnership between the two companies and we are actively exploring additional opportunities for collaboration.” Source,

Mercedes‑AMG Hypercar

The Mercedes-AMG ONE (energy consumption combined weighted: 17.7 kWh/100 km plus 9.9 l/100 km | fuel consumption combined discharged battery: 14.6 l/100 km | CO₂ emissions combined weighted: 224 g/km | CO₂ class combined weighted: G | CO₂ class discharged battery: G)[1] has been the fastest production car on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife since October 2022 and has been unrivalled ever since. The only rival is the ONE itself. Now Mercedes‑AMG brand ambassador and DTM driver Maro Engel has once again significantly improved the lap time he set. With an officially measured and notarised time of 6:29.090 minutes for the 20.832-kilometre track, the hypercar with Formula 1™ technology beat its own record for production vehicles by over five seconds. This makes the Mercedes‑AMG ONE the first road car to beat the magic mark of 6:30 minutes. It is also the only series hybrid hypercar to date to have taken on the world’s most demanding racetrack and is the undisputed leader in the super-sports-car class. In order to achieve the lofty goals they had set for themselves, meticulous preparation was necessary. In addition, the track conditions had to be ideal in order to beat the 6:30 minute target. On September 23, 2024, at 6:56 p.m., on his third timed lap, Maro Engel achieved the new record. With temperatures of 15 degrees Celsius (air) and 20 degrees Celsius (asphalt), the legendary Nordschleife was dry throughout and offered perfect grip. The Mercedes‑AMG Hypercar brings Formula 1™ hybrid-drive technology from the racetrack to the road for the first time. With one combustion engine and four electric motors, the E PERFORMANCE hybrid delivers a total of 782 kW (1,063 hp), with the top speed capped at 352 km/h. The other motorsport technologies range from the carbon monocoque and carbon body to the engine/transmission unit as a stressed member and active aerodynamics to the pushrod chassis. With its complex technology, the two-seater Mercedes‑AMG ONE offers even more than a Formula 1™ racing car in some cases. It features the fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive with a hybrid-driven rear axle and electrically driven front axle with torque vectoring. Read More
