Hexagon has now incorporated the enhanced version of its powerful Porosity & Inclusion analysis (PIA) tool that won an iF Award earlier this year.
Many automotive, aerospace and other manufacturers who use CT-scan-data analysis for quality assurance are already frequent users of this tool. Now enhanced with AI, the PIA quickly pinpoints and identifies discrepancies—such as pores and inclusions deep within metal, plastic or composite parts, components or material samples—from early product development stages through final manufacturing.
Key features in the Porosity & Inclusion Analysis:
· Intuitive design: All important settings are immediately visible and summarized at a glance, while advanced options are clearly accessible on separate tabs.
· Efficient workflow: Fewer clicks, more overview, maximum control. For the first time, all porosity/inclusion analysis procedures have been brought together in a single solution. This allows for direct access to the core functions and eliminates the need to switch between different dialogs, saving valuable time.
· Easier navigation: The new preview in the analysis dialog combines all key information and makes navigation easier thanks to the interactive minimap that shows the user’s current position in the analysis window.

Other features in Hexagon’s 2025.3 VG software release:
· Multipart coordinate measurement. This feature simplifies the handling of complex projects by allowing users to view, analyze, and edit measurement plans for multiple parts in one central location. The enhancement includes essential statistics for features directly in the feature list; interactive plotting of different values across all parts for individual features; and functions for directly editing, removing, and transferring features and geometry elements across all parts.
· Create and modify dimensions directly in the 3D view (Image 3). With the “Dimensioning” dialog open, create and adjust dimensioning features by dragging and dropping the measurement lines directly in the 3D view, allowing for easy placement in the correct direction and optimal visibility. Additionally, by holding down the “Alt” key, you can create projected dimensions on a preview plane. This enhancement ensures that all lines remain both visible and adjustable, even when located inside the material.
· Improved deformation field capabilities for optical scans. This significant enhancement is specifically designed for complex morphing of incomplete optical scans. Optical scans can often be challenging in deformation field computation, including issues such as missing parts because of scanner limitations and the need for precise matching, particularly in one-sided scanning scenarios. This improvement allows for more accurate and comprehensive handling of complex optically scanned parts, ensuring precise alignment and analysis even under challenging conditions.
· Enhanced mesh import/export now supports GLB/GLTF, AMF, and 3MF file formats . This makes it easier to exchange 3D surface data with other applications. This allows users, for example, to directly import and use mesh data created for additive manufacturing and stored in AMF or 3MF formats as nominal reference data without the need to convert it to an intermediate format—or export colored meshes created from analysis results or extracted from volume objects in GLB format, which can be easily exchanged with other applications such as PowerPoint. . Daimler Truck has returned to the Swiss Alps for summer testing with four advanced prototypes of the next generation of its Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Truck. The region of Valais, with its demanding mountain passes ranging from 600 to 2,478 meters in elevation – some only accessible in summer – offered ideal test conditions. The combination of high summer temperatures of more than 35 degrees Celsius and the thin mountain air on these particularly demanding route profiles pushes vehicles to their limits in terms of cooling performance and thermal management. The objective was to validate reliable operation under these extreme conditions and to gain valuable insights for the ongoing development and future deployment of these vehicles in everyday operations.
Specifically, the development team tested driving behaviour and dynamics, the performance of the electric drivetrain, thermal management and the interaction between the fuel cell, battery and tank system under real load peaks. Moreover, further development of the digital assistance system Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC) for fuel cell trucks was another focus area. Geobased route data helps the system recognize upcoming inclines several kilometers ahead. This enables the vehicles to tackle gradients proactively and optimize power delivery accordingly. The fuel cell then increases its performance in time, charges the high-voltage battery as needed and ensures that sufficient power is available for ascents at the best possible efficiency – even on the demanding mountain passes of the Alps. The fuel cell trucks were refueled with liquid hydrogen using a mobile hydrogen refuelling station from Air Products (sLH2 standard), which was set up at the test base in Vailais during the trials… Read More

Bentley’s new and exclusive ‘Ombré by Mulliner’ paint finish, that blends two separate colours over the length of a car, has been applied to a four-door sedan for the first time. The extraordinary new finish combines two complementary paint colours that transition along the sides and roof of the car, and is painted entirely by hand by the skilled Paint Shop artisans at Bentley’s Dream Factory in Crewe, England.
The new Flying Spur’s paint transitions from vibrant Topaz Blue at the front, to the darker Windsor Blue rear, with the fade occurring through the mid-section of the car across the doors, sills and roof. The process takes nearly 60 hours for two highly skilled paint technicians to complete, and starts with the spraying of the individual colours at the front and rear of the body. The transition happens across the centre of the car and is applied in stages, using paint that has been tinted using traditional mixing methods to achieve the Ombré effect – with extreme car taken that the transition is symmetrical across the car.
The Ombré technique is available in two additional colourways – Sunburst Gold to Orange Flame, and Tungsten to Onyx. . Read More

Mercedes-Benz recognised early on that aerodynamics are key to efficiency. Accordingly, the list of models with top aerodynamic performance is long: It initially ranges from the W 125 of 1937[1] to the 540 K “Streamliner” of 1938 and the C1112 from the 1970s to the W124 of 1984, which with a Cd of 0.29 was the first production car to fall below 0.30. More recently, the CLA of 2013 with a Cd of 0.22, the EQS with 0.20, and the current CLA with EQ Technology with a class-leading 0.21 should be mentioned. Another aero champion is the VISION EQXX from 2022. With a Cd value of 0.17, this technology platform offers the wind even less air resistance than an American football. While the focus of the VISION EQXX was on efficiency itself, the AMG GT XX was primarily about ensuring that efficiency at speeds of over 300 km/h. Thanks not least to its Cd value of 0.19 and intelligent aerodynamics, the AMG secured 25 long-distance world records on the Nardò test track in August 2025. Read More
IEA published a report entitled, The Implications of Oil and Gas Field Decline Rates, that states, “If current levels of production are to be maintained, over 45 million barrels per day of oil and around 2 000 billion cubic metres of natural gas would be needed in 2050 from new conventional fields.”
The IEA’s report also refers to factors that have discouraged oil industry investment, stating, “Market developments also influence oil and gas activities. For example, related to the shale revolution in the United States, the oil price crashes of 2014-2015 and 2020 as well as uncertainty about long-term oil demand have discouraged investment in the exploration and development of new large, long lead-time conventional hydrocarbon projects.”
However, the IEA has not referenced how its own advocacy of its Net Zero Emissions Scenario or its own prognosis of peak oil demand have discouraged investments and contributed to uncertainty about long-term oil demand.
In May 2021, Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the IEA, told The Guardian, “If governments are serious about the climate crisis, there can be no new investments in oil, gas and coal, from now – from this year.”
At today’s launch of its new report, the Executive Director stated, “An absence of upstream investment would remove the equivalent of Brazil and Norway’s combined production each year from the global market balance. The situation means that the industry has to run much faster just to stand still.” In contrast to the IEA’s U-turning on this important issue, OPEC has consistently advocated for timely investments in the oil industry to account for decline rates and meet growing demand. It is vital that all stakeholders are consistent in recognizing this and do not return to rhetoric that there should be no investment in new oil projects.. Read More

By 2027, 20 wind turbines with a capacity of 140 megawatts (MW) will be built on the site as part of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Around 20 percent of the annual electricity requirements of Mercedes-Benz Group AG in Germany can be covered by this after commissioning. Mercedes-Benz and UKA are cooperating with further partners for the construction of the wind farm. The 20 wind turbines with a total nominal output of 140 MW come from the German manufacturer Nordex. The concrete foundations and concrete parts for the hybrid towers with a hub height of 164 metres come from Max Bögl Wind AG.
The approximately 800-hectare Papenburg test track has been an integral part of the company’s research and development activities since 1998. With the project, Mercedes-Benz is expanding its green electricity portfolio in the medium term and at the same time actively supporting the expansion of onshore wind energy in Germany. The planning for the implementation of the wind farm project by UKA and the ecologically sustainable use of the area is being carried out in close coordination with the responsible local authorities and local stakeholders.
