Fortescue locks in a proud partnership

Fortescue is partnering with Pride WA on a three-year agreement to celebrate and support the LGBTQ+ community in Western Australia.

The partnership encompasses Pride WA’s flagship annual event, PrideFEST, which is the state’s largest celebration of the LGBTQ+ community.

Fortescue will also support Perth’s bid to bring the world’s largest LGBTQ+ sports and culture event, the Gay Games, to WA.

Pride WA chief executive officer Dr Lauren Butterly said the organisation is excited to partner with Fortescue.

“We know how important it is for our community to be able to celebrate PrideFEST with their colleagues and to know they are supported and celebrated at work,” Butterly said.

“We look forward to working with Fortescue over the next three years as PrideFEST grows and we bid for Gay Games 2030.”

Fortescue Metals chief executive officer Dino Otranto said true inclusion goes beyond creating policies – it’s about creating a space where every individual can bring their full selves to work, safe in the knowledge they will be respected and protected from discrimination.

“This partnership reflects Fortescue’s ongoing and unwavering commitment to building a culture that is open, welcoming and affirming for everyone,” Otranto said.

“We are incredibly excited to partner with Pride WA – a group that shares our commitment to inclusivity, respect and equality.

“We believe in the power of diversity to drive innovation and enrich our communities.

“Our approach is informed by a simple belief that we need every mind at the table, focused and free, to tackle the existential challenge of climate change.”

Fortescue employees, guided by the company’s LGBTQ+ advocacy group, Fortitude, will march proudly at Perth’s upcoming PrideFEST on November 23 2024.
