Ford’s electric vehicle sales in the 4th quarter reached a new high for the company. The company had 30,176 EV deliveries to close out 2024. Across the full year, Ford nearly reached 100,000 pure EV sales (97,865 when all was said and done on December 31).

Notably, the company’s EVs finished the year strong. The Ford Mustang Mach-E had its best quarter ever in the 4th quarter, with 16,119 units delivered. True, that’s nothing compared to the similarly sized and priced Tesla Model Y, but it outsold ever other electric SUV in the country.

All of Ford’s full electric models had record years. Here are their key numbers for the year:

  • Ford Mustang Mach-E — 51,745 sales, +27%
  • Ford F-150 Lightning — 33,510 sales, +39%
  • Ford E-Transit — 12,610 sales, +64%

To think that Ford executives were talking about slowing EV sales, or sales growth, at the end of 2023 and beginning of 2024!

Ford also highlighted “electrified” vehicle, hybrid plus electric vehicle, sales. I know most of our readers aren’t too interested in the hybrid sales, but here’s the company’s overall summary on that: “Total Ford electrified vehicle sales (hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric) hit a record 285,291 this year — up 38%, outselling GM and Stellantis’ electrified vehicles for the full year.” It had 187,426 hybrid sales on top of its 97,865 EV sales.

Back to pure electric vehicle sales, Ford noted that it’s the #2 EV brand in the United States. I’ll have to wait until I have all 4th quarter numbers in to confirm that, but it was indeed the case in the 3rd quarter.

It’s great to see EV progress and strong sales growth at Ford, but the company is still far from being an EV giant and far from its EV sales rivaling its non-EV sales. Only 6.0% of Ford’s sales were EV sales in the 4th quarter if you look at Ford the brand, and 5.7% were if you look at the company as a whole (adding Lincoln in). Yes, that’s a big step up from the 3rd quarter, but I don’t think anyone would call it especially commendable in 2024/2025. And the figures were 5.0% and 4.7%, respectively, for the year as a whole.
