Ford has opened up orders for the 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E, which has a starting price of just $36,495.

Last week, I wrote about 10 electric SUVs/crossovers that compete with the Tesla Model Y and could, in theory, see a lot more sales. The Ford Mustang Mach-E was one of those models, and at the time had a starting MSRP of $39,995 for the base Select model. That model now comes with a $3,000 cheaper version, but that also pulls its EPA-estimated range down to 260 mile (RWD) or 240 mile (eAWD) — while you can still get the 300-mile version for a bit more money.

I love this. Personally, I think the need for 300+ miles of range is overhyped and completely incorrect for most cars. Even in a household that frequently takes very long-distance trips, they probably have one car dedicated to that purpose and another car or two that stays home and is really only used for city/metro area/regional driving — where 200 miles of range is more than adequate. So, I love that Ford is giving consumers more choice, opening up the option of going electric to more buyers with different needs when it comes to cost and range.

Also, I followed up that story by asking how some of those compelling electric vehicles could reach sales volumes closer to the Model Y’s, which are several times higher. The fact is: showing a lower starting MSRP, even if that means offering a lower base range that most people won’t choose, is a great way to get more people paying attention and test driving the car. So, kudos to Ford for that.

I’m curious to see how much these things can help Ford to boost Mustang Mach-E sales. The Mach-E was the 5th best selling electric vehicle in the US in the 4th quarter, and the 3rd best selling EV in 2024 overall. With more than 50,000 sales, it only trailed the Tesla Model 3 (~190,000 sales) and Tesla Model Y (~370,000 sales), but as you can see, there’s a lot more opportunity for sales at its price points.

The new 2025 Mustang Mach-E also offers the following key improvements:

  • A new heat pump that optimizes energy efficiency, especially helpful in cold weather.
  • BlueCruise hands-free highway driving with Automatic Lane Change.
  • A new Sport Appearance Package.
  • “Ability to set a universal charge limit, schedule preferred charge times and access real-time charging information directly on the vehicle screen. The connected navigation system now also locates compatible Tesla Superchargers.”

The Mustang Mach-E is better than ever, at a lower price than ever. This model should have a great year.

“Furthermore, the Ford Power Promise program provides retail customers ordering any new Ford electric vehicle—including the Mustang Mach-E—with a complimentary home charger, standard installation, and 24/7 access to a dedicated electric vehicle support advisor,” Ford wrote in an email to CleanTechnica. I wrote about this great Ford program earlier this month. See: “Ford ‘Power Promise’ Extended into 2025 for US Electric Vehicle Buyers.”

“Four years ago, we revealed the Mustang Mach-E®to the world and today I am excited that customer orders for the 2025 Mustang Mach-E are open,” Darren Palmer, Vice President of Ford Electric Vehicle Programs, wrote earlier today. “We’ve incorporated feedback to address key concerns and enhance the driving experience. This includes a heat pump for improved efficiency in colder climates and the latest version of BlueCruise with Automatic Lane Change for a seamless hands-free highway driving experience and more flexibility in how customers can purchase a plan. We have also addressed customer requests for features that improve the charging experience, so we added the capability to set a universal charge limit, schedule preferred charge times at specific locations, and access real-time charging information in vehicle. Users will also now be able to find compatible Tesla Superchargers in the connected Nav in their vehicle.”

“It’s hard to believe that our first ground-up electric SUV is already celebrating its fourth birthday. This milestone isn’t just about a number; it represents a shift in the automotive landscape and what customers are looking for. It’s about how people perceive electric vehicles and, more broadly, the Ford brand today.”

Palmer also notes that the Mustang Mach-E has been extended into 57 global markets this year, and 60% of Mustang Mach-E buyers are new to Ford.

The 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E is set up for success. Let’s see how many Ford can sell.
