Another auto company has clearly seen its EV sales jump as a result of the expiring US EV tax credit and the consumer rush to buy EVs before October 1st. That company is Ford.

3rd Quarter Sales

Ford’s most popular electric vehicle, the Mustang Mach-E, saw the most growth. With 20,177 sales in the 3rd quarter, the Mustang Mach-E had 50.7% growth compared to its 13,392 sales in the 3rd quarter of 2024. That also meant it was a record quarter for the electric crossover/SUV.

The Ford F-150 Lightning, meanwhile, scored 10,005 sales in the 3rd quarter, up 39.7% from its 7,162 sales in the 3rd quarter of 2024.

The Ford E-Transit, unfortunately, is way down. The E-Transit logged just 430 sales, down 85.4% from 2,955 in Q3 2024.

2025 Sales

Looking at the first 9 months of the year combined, Ford’s EV sales are not up as much, but they are still up.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E grew from 35,626 sales to 41,962 sales. That’s 17.8% growth. Solid, good growth. But nothing like the 50.7% growth of the 3rd quarter. What will the end result be on December 31, 2025?

As you might expect, it’s not going to get better from there.

The Ford F-150 Lightning, had 23,034 sales in the first 9 months of the year, up just 1% from its 22,807 sales in the first 9 months of 2024.

And then there’s the Ford E-Transit, which has fallen off a cliff for some reason. The E-Transit had 4,604 sales in the first three quarters of 2025, down 50.3% from its 9,256 sales in the first three quarters of 2024.

Overall, looking at all of these numbers combined, it’s hard to be positive about Ford’s EV trends.

Going Forward

But, hey, at the moment, let’s celebrate Ford’s momentum with the Mustang Mach-E’s 50.7% growth in Q3 and the F-150 Lightning’s 39.7% growth in Q3. And that doesn’t have to end now. Ford had found a loophole to get the $7,500 tax credit passed on to consumers through the end of the year. Perhaps the 3rd quarter sales and happy customers will lead to another surge in the 4th quarter? Maybe?
