From day one, Fastned has redefined what a charging station could look like. When the competition installed a single charger in the least visited part of a parking lot, not willing to inconvenience the public at large still driving gasmobiles, Fastned built a large and very recognizable station. It was easily visible from the road, very approachable.

The evolution of the Fastned station over the first five years has gone from the iconic wave form to the tree canopy that is flexible and can be used for stations of all sizes.
Just over a month ago, I was invited to attend the opening of a new type of charging station. It still had a multi-tree canopy, but it also had a convenience store and a rest area.

I thought I had seen the future of charging stations. Oh boy, was I wrong.
Last week, a press release landed in my inbox announcing that Fastned was going to build the first indoor charging station. I had a hard time thinking what that could be. Not much imagination here. I was thinking about an indoor shopping center with a charging station between the shops of Prada and Gucci, but how would the cars get there? I was baffled.
Luckily, there was a great animation that explained what an indoor charging station could look like by showing the future in action.
This station is planned in Aberdeen, Scotland. It can be wet, misty, and cold up there. And when the North Sea gets angry, you do not want to be outside. Fastned came up with the perfect place to protect their customers from the weather. This should not be exclusive for Aberdeen. when Glasgow finds out, they will require two of them. Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland, it can’t be without one. I can imagine a race between these cities. Who can get all the permits and incentives ready the first?

Besides my amazement about the inventiveness of Fastned, I have nothing to add.
