Experts pave the way at QME

Excitement is growing for the upcoming Queensland Mining and Engineering Exhibition (QME), with the official release of the free-to-attend seminar series program.

Held from July 23–25, QME will bring together thought leaders from across the sector to equip, energise and inform the industry on critical issues.

The 2024 QME Seminar Series, sponsored by Komatsu, will feature keynotes and panel sessions addressing important topics and offering real-time solutions.

This year’s series will look at topics including the future of mining, diversification, critical minerals, smart mining technology, clean energy, occupational health and safety and an investment outlook.

Federal Minister for Resources Madeleine King will be among those presenting to the conference.

“Building the industries of the future will require more mining and the Federal Government is working to ensure industry is well placed to do just that,” King said.

“To get to net-zero we will need more minerals to build renewable technologies to reduce emissions. The road to net-zero runs through Queensland’s resources sector.”

Minerals Council of Australia chief economist Dr Ross Lambie will also be speaking at QME, which his speech focusing on reimagining the mining landscape to exploit new opportunities through transformation.

“Productivity enhancing policies and public investment in multi-user infrastructure present a transformative potential for the sector as we now more than ever look to access untapped mineral deposits,” he said.

“The mines of the future won’t be the mines of the past – and moving along the value chain to processing and manufacturing requires a more sophisticated approach by industry and governments.”

With a jam-packed program representing industry’s upper echelons, other speakers at the Seminar Series include:

  • Scott Stewart, Queensland Minister for Resources and Critical Minerals
  • Janette Hewson, Queensland Resources Council chief executive officer (CEO)
  • Paul Flynn, Whitehaven Coal managing director
  • Scott Winter, Critical Minerals Group managing director and CEO
