Electric boats are a promising whisper-quiet choice as the marine industry advances toward a decarbonized future. Our cherished coastlines and bodies of water will benefit from the presence of silent ships and boats. The good news is that they are now making their way to a less serene area, the noisier coast of the southern United States. Developed in close collaboration with Evoy, a Norwegian manufacturer of fully electric marine motor systems, AX/E demonstrates the power of combining cutting-edge electric propulsion technology with Axopar’s renowned hull design and seaworthiness, reshaping the marine industry with a range that offers peak driving efficiency.
Evoy Vita has partnered with Axopar to launch the AX/E electric boat sub-brand in the US recreational market. This launch includes the Evoy Storm 300+ HP, the world’s most powerful electric outboard motor. The Evoy Storm provides excellent acceleration, immediate torque, and rapid charging, establishing new performance benchmarks while minimizing environmental impact. The AX/E series will be available in the United States beginning in 2025, allowing recreational boaters a quieter, fume-free experience.
“The AX/E 22 and AX/E 25 models combine Axopar’s proven modular design with innovative electric propulsion, offering superior performance, with top speeds of 36 knots for the AX/E 22 and +50 knots for the AX/E 25,” an email to CleanTechnica states. “Fast charging technology ensures minimal downtime between adventures.”
Axopar, a leader in adventurous boating, has developed a legacy over the last decade that has impacted how people delight in the ocean. This year, Axopar is celebrating ten years of innovation by introducing AX/E.
The boats emanate opulence and aesthetics, with exquisite finishing that demonstrates flawless craftsmanship. Premium materials such as teak, powder-painted profiles, and custom upholstery finish provide a polished, timeless appearance. Color palettes of soft neutrals such as ivory and earthy beige tones are carefully chosen to complement their streamlined form, while modular features allow for personalized combinations that combine luxury and functionality. Each feature represents a commitment to sophistication, resulting in boats that are both beautiful and adaptable while maintaining Axopar’s functionality, performance, and drivability.
The Evoy Storm 300+ HP will also be available to other boat builders, encouraging the industry to adopt high-performance electric solutions. Evoy Vita is also making progress in the business sector, with workboats such as the Vita Seal now functioning in California.
In the coming decade, game-changing breakthroughs in the maritime industry will make mobility easier, more efficient, and friendlier. This is just a start.
The launch of AX/E is an inevitable extension of Axopar’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation and sustainability. The new sub-brand represents a huge step forward in electric boating, allowing users to enjoy the seas with zero emissions while maintaining the seamless performance, dependability, and seaworthiness that Axopar is known for.
“Through Axopar’s long-term partnership with Evoy, one of the world’s leading companies in high-output electric propulsion systems, the AX/E models represent a unique collaboration that brings together the absolute best in marine innovation,” the companies write.
Jan-Erik Viitala, Founding Partner of Axopar Boats, says: “Throughout this journey, Evoy has proven to be an ideal partner for Axopar. Together with Evoy, our mission is to inspire and drive a broader movement towards electric boating, encouraging other manufacturers to embrace electric propulsion and scale it into full serial production. We believe that electrification will evolve progressively, and we are committed to staying at the forefront of this transformation.”
“Our collaboration with Axopar on the AX/E line brings our vision of ‘irresistible boating’ to life — delivering an electric experience so thrilling that heading back out on the water becomes a must,” says Leif Stavøstrand, CEO of Evoy. “Axopar, the innovators of adventure boating, have set the standard in this segment. Together, we’re showing that electric boating can provide the performance, excitement, and sustainability adventure boaters demand. The AX/E series represents a new era where performance and sustainability go hand in hand.”
It appears Evoy’s innovative electric power solutions flawlessly complement Axopar’s award-winning designs, resulting in a boating experience that pushes the limits of what is possible — with exceptional torque, whisper-quiet operation, and zero emissions. “At the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show 2024, attendees will have the exclusive opportunity to experience the AX/E 25 up close. […]
“The AX/E 25, recognized with the 2023 Gussies Award in the ‘Production Electric Boats: Up to 8m / 26ft’ category, stands out for its unique ability to maintain a comfortable, dry ride in challenging conditions, even at speeds between 20–25 knots. AX/E 25 is an all-weather electrical motorboat capable of doing 25 nm with speed of 25 knots. This was made possible by Axopar’s innovative hull design, which efficiently balances stability and performance, making it one of the rare electric boats that can confidently venture beyond sheltered waters. With an impressive top speed of +50 knots and a range of up to 60 nautical miles at slow speeds, the AX/E 25 combines thrill and efficiency, ensuring every journey is exhilarating and responsible.”
“AX/E is the result of years of development and collaboration with the world’s leading technology and innovation partners. We wanted to create something that is truly electrifying, with boats that excite and inspire but also protect the environments we explore. AX/E reflects Axopar’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible on the water,” says Jarkko Jämsén, Axopar’s head designer, the creative force behind the brand’s exceptional hull design and functional features, which make these vessels truly stand out.
“Built for extended adventures and open-sea exploration, the AX/E 25 can reach speeds of 50+ knots with a range of 60 nautical miles at slow speeds. Featuring advanced technology like the E-Brain™ Management System, and powered by the Evoy Outboard Storm 300+ hp motor, it sets a new standard for luxury and performance in electric boating. Fast-charging capabilities ensure boaters spend more time exploring.”
As you get ready for the Florida event, recreate the experience in quite different weather thanks to CleanTechnica author Jesper Berggreen, who rode on the boat in Denmark and wrote the article “A Thrill Ride I Will Never Forget — Evoy Electric Boats.”
“In what seems like no time at all, the X9 reaches over 50 knots (60 mph/90 km/h) and a glance at the power meter shows 410 kW! That’s 550 horses kicking up water! It is very cold and the battery has not reached optimal working temperature yet allowing for the last 250 horses to be let loose (totaling 600 kW). Honestly, at this point I should have been a little intimidated and probably not willing to have my face whipped cold with icy water for longer, but contrary to my anticipation I wanted more!”
