Swedish firm Epiroc has received underground mine equipment order from JCHX Mining and Construction in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The $17m (Skr175m) order covers several Scooptram ST14 loaders, Minetruck MT42 haul trucks, and Simba production drill rigs, including service support, for the Kipushi mine in the Haut-Katanga province.
The Scooptram and Minetruck machines will feature Epiroc’s telematics system Certiq. This allows intelligent real-time monitoring of machine performance and productivity.
The machines will also feature Epiroc’s Rig Control System to make them ready for automation and remote control.
Epiroc president and CEO Helena Hedblom said: “We look forward to supporting JCHX in making operations at the Kipushi mine as safe and productive as possible.”

Following decades of production, the Kipushi zinc, copper, germanium and silver mine was placed on care and maintenance in 1994.
The mine is planned to restart production in late 2024. Construction work at the mine started last year.
Epiroc Underground division president Sami Niiranen said: “JCHX has been a customer of Epiroc for many years, both in Africa and Europe, and we are pleased to continue delivering innovative solutions that will help to optimise operations at Kipushi.”
Epiroc plans to start delivery in the near future and will continue into early 2024.
Owned by Kipushi Corporation, the Kipushi mine will be powered by renewable hydroelectricity.
Kipushi Corporation is a joint venture between Ivanhoe Mines and DRC state-owned mining company Gécamines.
