EPCA enlists help of Escala Consulting to expand battery-electric retrofit reach across Latin America – International Mining

EPCA has announced a strategic partnership with Escala Consulting Pty Ltd to represent the Australia-based engineering company across Mexico and Latin America as its official Sales Representative for the region.

With operations in Australia and Mexico, Escala leverages deep regional insight and cross-border industry experience to unlock commercial opportunities for innovative technologies in mining and energy, EPCA says. This collaboration aligns with EPCA’s goal of accelerating the adoption of battery-electric retrofit solutions in one of the world’s most resource-rich and emissions-intensive regions.

Initial efforts will focus on building strong relationships with mining clients and stakeholders, identifying early adopters and positioning EPCA’s electric powertrain technology as a practical, zero-emission alternative to diesel across Latin America’s mining sector, the company says.

EPCA made its name in the mine electrification space though the development of the E-777D, the company’s first fully battery-electric retrofit of a 91 t mining truck. Built from the chassis of a CAT 777D, this machine combined proven mining design with a powerful zero-emission electric drivetrain. EPCA states that it has an eight hour runtime, can be fast charged in 50 minutes and offers 14% more power than its diesel counterpart.

Since debuting the vehicle at The Electric Mine 2024, in Perth, Australia, EPCA has run the E-777D through a trial at Bakers Hill, a sand mine located just 40 minutes north of Perth.

As well as working on a commercial retrofit platform for the E-777D, EPCA is planning to electrify both diesel-powered 142-t-payload CAT 785s and CAT 993 wheel loaders as part of demonstrating its battery-electric conversion credentials in mining.
