London, October 01, 2025, (Oilandgaspress) –– Eni is investing further in the energy of the future, signing a more than $1 billion agreement with Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) committing to the acquisition of electricity to be produced at CFS’s magnetic confinement fusion power plants. The energy will come from ARC, the first 400 MW commercial power plant to be built by Commonwealth Fusion Systems in Chesterfield County, in the State of Virginia (USA). It is expected to be connected to the US electricity grid at the beginning of the next decade. Thanks to this agreement, the collaboration between Eni and CFS, which has been active in the technological field since 2018, will now extend to the commercialization of fusion energy on an industrial scale. The agreement marks a turning point in the global energy transition, confirming the role of fusion energy as a key element for a future that can guarantee sustainable, safe and accessible energy.
