Eni receives Gold Standard recognition from United Nations

London, 01 December 2023, (Oilandgaspress): – Eni announces that it has received a Gold Standard within the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0) program as reported today in the International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) published by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

The recognition by the United Nations is based on Eni’s positive assessment for its significantly improved implementation plan for methane emissions reporting, conforming to the OGMP 2.0 recommendations.

This award by the United Nations marks the effectiveness of Eni’s decarbonisation strategy, with reference to reducing methane emissions, an issue that has taken a key role in the international climate debate.

Eni confirms the stability of Upstream methane emission intensity below 0.2 % in line with the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI) “well below 0.2 %” target by 2025. Eni has already achieved this target continuing to focus on reducing fugitive emissions and through projects of methane abatement from venting and flaring. In 2022 this value stood at 0.08%.

Eni reduced methane emissions by more than 50% in 2022 compared to 2018, largely due to the implementation of LDAR (Leak Detection And Repair) programs in almost all Eni-operated assets.
