Eni Natural Energies upgrades hospital facilities in Kenya

London, October 29, 2025, (Oilandgaspress) –– Eni Natural Energies Kenya (ENE Kenya), in partnership with the Government of Makueni County, today inaugurated the upgraded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Blood Bank Unit, and Kambi Mawe Dispensary at Wote hospital.

The completion of equipment delivery and installation marks a key milestone in advancing Kenya’s Vision 2030 goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC). It also underscores ENE Kenya’s commitment to improving community health and well-being within its agri-feedstock project area through a sustainable development approach.

Delivered in two batches, the equipment upgrade, combined with the clinical training for 11 medical professionals, has significantly reinforced neonatal and maternal care. Automated infusion devices have cut nursing time for fluid titration by over 50%, while point-of-care bilirubinometers have provided timely jaundice diagnoses, reducing treatment delays. Furthermore, the installation of new monitoring systems, LED phototherapy units, neonatal resuscitaires, and additional incubators has expanded capacity from 38 to 50 beds, improving the quality of neonatal care. Since the introduction of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) for preterm infants in late 2024, neonatal mortality rates has dropped by 50%.

The installation of modern equipment in the Blood Bank Unit now enables the separation of blood components for specialized treatment protocols, making it the only facility of its kind in the region. In parallel, a nutrition program has supported 1,576 beneficiaries, including children under five and pregnant or lactating women, to address moderate acute malnutrition and strengthen immunity among vulnerable groups.
