EDF is gifting customers eight hours of free electricity from 8am-4pm on Christmas Day, covering the hours when the nation’s electricity use hits its festive peak. New research, conducted by EDF*, reveals that households celebrating Christmas are estimated to use more than 65 kWh** of electricity on Christmas Day alone. This is seven times the usual daily consumption of 8–10 kWh*** – enough to watch Home Alone back-to-back 183 times.

Among the more unusual contributions to the day’s load, two in five (22%) pet owners go the extra mile to cook a special Christmas meal for their pet, alongside the 14.6 million turkeys and 114 million pigs in blankets Brits are expected to consume this Christmas****.

Beauty prep is also important as 1 in 10 are planning to use LED face masks (10%) and ring lights for festive selfies (10%) to ensure their Christmas Day looks are Insta-worthy.

Cooking Christmas dinner for family and friends remains at the heart of the celebrations, with three quarters (76%) of Brits planning to prepare a traditional meal complete with turkey (67%), roast potatoes (75%), pigs in blankets (57%) and stuffing (54%), washed down with a whopping 0.9 liters of gravy, proving its unwavering importance at the Christmas table.

But it is not just ovens that are working overtime. Brits are expected to brew a whopping 332 million cups of tea and coffee, enough to fill 32 Olympic-size swimming pools.

With Christmas specials and the King’s Speech to tune into, 93% of Brits plan to watch TV at some point during the day. Families across the UK will also spend an estimated 131 hours charging new devices on Christmas Day alone – from phones and tablets to games consoles, all while powering 18.5 million dishwasher loads.

Household lights are another star of the show, with 87% of homes brightening their festivities with Christmas tree lights for almost eight hours. In fact, the average home is expected to display 245 LED lights, contributing to more than 4 billion individual fairy lights twinkling across the UK throughout the day.

The new photovoltaic system at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, which was developed as part of the sustainability partnership between BVB football club and RWE, is now complete. With 11,132 solar modules and an output of over 5 megawatts (MWp), Germany’s largest stadium now boasts the world’s most powerful PV system ever installed on a stadium roof. Going forward, BVB will be able to cover up to half of the stadium’s electricity requirements with solar power. This world record has been officially confirmed by the German Record Institute. Compared to the previous power supply, the new solar system will save around 1,700 tonnes of CO₂ per year. By the beginning of 2026, a battery storage facility with a capacity of 3.7 megawatt hours will also have been built. Once it has been connected to the new PV system, climate-friendly electricity can also be used when the sun is not shining. In April 2024, RWE and BVB installed a new PV system comprising around 200 solar modules on the roof of the BVB Fan World building, located next to the stadium. In summer 2024, RWE and Borussia Dortmund agreed to enter into a six-year partnership. As a ‘premium and sustainability partner’, RWE will support the renowned club in its ambitious decarbonisation plans. Read More

The concept of few-offs, cars built in a very limited number, is part of Lamborghini’s DNA. The Reventón in 2007 was the first unveiling to mark this new era of modern few-offs, with ensuing models each attaining a legendary status due to their rarity and glimpses into ground-breaking new design elements and technologies. Albert Spiess has been a customer of these cars since his first Reventón, and his Lamborghini collection is considered one of the most important in the world.

Since 2007 Automobili Lamborghini has built six few-off series, often produced in both a closed and open version. The first was the Reventón in 2007, followed by the Sesto Elemento in 2010, the Veneno in 2013, the Centenario in 2017, the Sián in 2019 and, in 2021 the Countach LPI 800-4. Every one of these models has taken unique technical or styling features that distinguish it as not only innately special but at the same time a marker of Lamborghini development that could evolve into production.

Albert Spiess talks for the first time about his passion for Lamborghini and what sparked his love for the Italian super sports car brand: an extension of his consuming pursuit of automotive perfection and part of his very being.. Read More
