ANAB accreditation bolsters Eco’s auditing and verification capabilities
DES MOINES, Iowa–(BUSINESS WIRE)–EcoEngineers, a consulting, auditing, and advisory firm with an exclusive focus on the energy transition, today announced that it has been granted accreditation by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) National Accreditation Board (ANAB), in accordance with the following International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards ISO/IEC 17029:2019 Conformity assessment — General principles and requirements for validation and verification bodies; ISO 14065:2020 — General principles and requirements for bodies validating and verifying environmental information; and ISO 14064-3:2019 Greenhouse gases (GHG) — Part 3: Specification with guidance for the verification and validation of greenhouse gas statements. The specific scope of accreditation granted to EcoEngineers is: Verification of assertions related to GHG emission reductions and removals at the project level for project activities under ANAB scope 01. GHG emission reductions from fuel combustion.
This accreditation allows EcoEngineers to provide organizations and their stakeholders, including board members and investors, with the assurance, credibility, quality, rigor, and continuous improvement they need to reduce risk. Additionally, this assurance will support a GHG project’s ability to substantiate its GHG statements. EcoEngineers joins an elite group of ISO-accredited Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs) that identify risks, review methods of data collection and reporting, and evaluate the robustness of data management systems in place to ensure accurate and transparent GHG reporting.
“The world is relying on market-based mechanisms to find a solution to the emissions problem and the climate problem. In this context, there is a need for solid methodologies and reliable verification services to make sure the systems we put in place over the next decade are robust and will deliver the results we seek,” said Shashi Menon, CEO of EcoEngineers. “The accreditation will help us reduce risks and deliver transparency of clients’ GHG claims to meet the demands of this evolving emissions marketplace.”
The ANAB accreditation enables EcoEngineers to expand its auditing and verification services beyond the U.S. Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and state-driven Low-Carbon Fuel Standards (LCFS). EcoEngineers is an accredited GHG validation and verification body, which means that it may seek to become recognized to perform verification services under Canada’s Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR), The Climate Registry (TCR), Climate Action Reserve (CAR), Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard, Gold Standard Foundation, and Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA).
In the voluntary carbon markets (VCM), this accreditation allows Eco to participate in carbon removal registries such as Puro.earth, Isometric, and others.
The accreditation also positions Eco to expand its services into Europe to become a registered verification body under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC).
ISO 14065:2020 and ISO/IEC 17029:2019 are international standards that specify principles and requirements for bodies that undertake the validation or verification of GHG claims. They outline the criteria for organizations like EcoEngineers to ensure credibility, transparency, and impartiality in their processes when assessing and confirming GHG emissions claims made by entities seeking environmental certification or compliance.
EcoEngineers has nearly 15 years of experience helping clients stay informed, measure emissions, make investment decisions, maintain compliance, and manage data through the lens of carbon accounting. The accreditation involved undergoing comprehensive assessments and rigorous reviews of internal structural requirements, resources, processes for validation and verification services, information and confidentiality reviews, and management system assessments.
“Attaining this accreditation is a natural next step for EcoEngineers,” added Randy Prati, vice president, strategic initiatives at EcoEngineers. “It allows us to build continuous improvement into every aspect of our auditing and verification services, resulting in peace of mind for our clients knowing they have the assurance of verifying their GHG claims with confidence.”
