CALGARY (December 14, 2023) – Drawing insights from our participation at COP28, Canada Powered by Women (CPW) recognizes the critical need for more Canadian women’s voices at the forefront, on both the national and global stage. Now, more than ever, it’s imperative to ensure representation that reflects the lived experiences of those impacted by the policies under debate. Â
Our fall research shows that while engaged Canadian women are concerned about our environment, they aren’t willing to make tradeoffs that sacrifice their own standard of living or affordability. They want solutions that drive continual improvement in global emissions reduction while also supporting growth in both Canadian LNG and investments in technology and innovation. We are confident that more solutions like these will preserve the contributions Canadian resource development makes to our economy and prosperity. Â
Our network of engaged women who attended COP28 are bringing back invaluable learnings pivotal to our vision, and we are looking forward to applying those learnings to our ongoing engagement. As we gear up for a significant year for CPW in 2024, we strongly emphasize the necessity of balanced conversations, especially concerning policy and governance. By amplifying women’s voices and fostering safe spaces for their opinions on Canada’s energy transformation and future, CPW is continuing to encourage participation without pre-established boundaries.Â
We understand that Canada’s position at forums like COP28 might inadvertently overlook the voices of its citizens. However, CPW’s mission is to ensure that diverse perspectives, particularly those of engaged women who connect the dots on how policies affecting energy and resource development impact everyday Canadians, are brought to the forefront of these important discussions. Join us in shaping the discussions that directly impact our communities and future generations of Canadians.Â
About Canada Powered by WomenÂ
In 2019, a group of women with backgrounds in various sectors – including energy, founded Canada Powered by Women to put the spotlight on an important gap – women’s voices in the energy transformation conversation and the balance of energy security, the environment and the economy. The organization aims to understand what women across the country are thinking and feeling and provides opportunities to bring women together to find common ground on energy transformation – to be a vehicle for the voices of many women across Canada in a manner that is unignorable and has real impact.Â
Canada Powered by Women facilitates discussions amongst women across the country, creating a trusted place to talk about complex issues that matter, a place to listen and a place to raise awareness and create positive change for all Canadians. Learn more at canadapoweredbywomen.caÂ
