It seems like almost every day we hear about data breaches, people having credit card information stolen, and even ransomware attacks. At the same time, we’re seeing public confidence in charging networks drop in the United States. So, it’s clear that we need not only excellent cybersecurity for customer information, but we need EV charging stations on all networks that work right the first time with minimal hassle for the drivers.
But, getting there is a challenge. So, it’s always great when we can highlight efforts to make this happen! Irdeto, a cybersecurity company, recently announced a strategic joint project with ChargeHub, a company that already focuses on interoperable EV charging in the North American market. This alliance brings the strengths of both companies together. Irdeto’s cutting-edge CrossCharge and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) solutions will work in concert with ChargeHub’s state-of-the-art eRoaming interoperability Passport Hub platform.
The result will be a seamless, user-friendly, and secure Plug & Charge solution. By bringing Irdeto’s CrossCharge technology into the process, ChargeHub is committing to bringing Plug & Charge capabilities to North America’s largest EV roaming hub, which will make it easier for drivers to charge, negating the need for multiple apps, credit cards, and extra busy work figuring things out at the station. “Plug & Charge is an emerging payment method for EV charging, providing a user-friendly and secure experience,” said Simon Ouellette, CEO at ChargeHub. “Irdeto’s solution perfectly complements the ChargeHub platform, creating a synergy that is set to redefine the EV charging experience.”
The companies say that EV drivers will enjoy a more convenient and streamlined charging experience. For charging companies and other companies in the EV world, Plug & Charge means a more efficient approach to EV charging, ensuring transparent billing, secure payment settlements, and compliance with industry standards (ex. ISO 15118).
ChargeHub’s Passport Hub is already not only working, but well-received in the United States and Canada. It connects over 25 charging companies and their industry partners, giving drivers easy, simple access to more than 75,000 charging stalls. With Irdeto’s technology added into the mix, EV drivers can do everything they need to do to get those electrons flowing with a single account.
Irdeto’s offering not only brings different providers together, but brings new solutions to the market faster, and without the interoperation headaches. Unlike other solutions that rely on external security suppliers, Irdeto’s in-house key management system makes for a more efficient and secure implementation in-house. In sum, less moving parts means less to go wrong, even in the world of software.
The company is also no “Johnny Come Lately.” With over 1 billion certificates issued to date and a great reputation earned managing security for over 300 million devices, Irdeto’s Keys and Credentials PKI security service will get the job done right the first time while keeping customer information secure going forward.
“As electric vehicle adoption continues to rise, the industry demands innovative solutions that provide convenient and equitable access to public EV charging,” said Niels Haverkorn, SVP, New Markets at Irdeto. “By leveraging Irdeto’s platform, ChargeHub can better serve the needs of EV drivers and offer eMSPs seamless access to one of the largest CPO networks.”

I don’t like paywalls. You don’t like paywalls. Who likes paywalls? Here at CleanTechnica, we implemented a limited paywall for a while, but it always felt wrong — and it was always tough to decide what we should put behind there. In theory, your most exclusive and best content goes behind a paywall. But then fewer people read it!! So, we’ve decided to completely nix paywalls here at CleanTechnica. But…
Thank you!
