Automotive distributors BYD and VinFast, and their principals and local partners, mobilized resources to deliver aid to northern Cebu communities following the September 30 earthquake that registered a 6.9 magnitude.
Charging Support

ACMobility and the Ayala Foundation deployed a 24-vehicle convoy to seven affected municipalities: Bogo City, San Remigio, Catmon, Daanbantayan, Medellin, Tabogon, and Tabuelan. The operation, organized by BYD Cars Philippines and Ayala Foundation’s #BrigadangAyala program, transported bottled water, food packs, tents, blankets, medicines, and toiletries.
The vehicles used Vehicle-to-Load technology to serve as mobile power sources in areas with damaged or offline grids. Volunteers from the BYD Cebu Owners Group handled logistics and distribution.
The relief mission targeted seven municipalities: Bogo City, San Remigio, Catmon, Daanbantayan, Medellin, Tabogon, and Tabuelan. ACMobility and BYD Philippines also provided financial support for volunteer costs and logistics.
Bob Palanca, Managing Director of BYD Cars Philippines, confirmed the company’s commitment to supporting affected communities. Adam Hu, Country Head of BYD Philippines, said the effort combined resources and technology to deliver immediate assistance.
Financial Aid
VinFast Philippines and Green GSM took a different approach, providing 10 million pesos in direct financial assistance to the Cebu provincial government. Governor Pamela Baricuatro received the donation from Vingroup representatives.
“We are very grateful for your kindness, we will use this money to rebuild damaged schools, offices and support people to rebuild their houses,” Baricuatro said. “I would like to thank the group and hope that you will continue to accompany the government and people of Cebu.”
Green GSM arrived in Cebu on October 1, delivering 500 relief packages with drinking water and food supplies to local authorities. The company said it is transporting mobile tents to the area and coordinating with authorities on rescue and relief operations.
Newly appointed CEO of VinFast South East Asia Antonio Zara said the company sees the support as part of its corporate responsibility. “We are deeply saddened and empathize with the significant losses experienced by the people of Cebu following the earthquake,” Zara said. “VinFast and our partners are committed to standing with the local government and the community to help residents restore stability as quickly as possible.”
Dao Quy Phi, Managing Director of Green GSM Philippines, said the company mobilized immediately after receiving requests from Cebu authorities. “We believe that the direct involvement of our drivers will help relief resources reach the people faster and more efficiently,” Phi said.
The relief efforts represent coordinated private sector responses to the earthquake, which damaged infrastructure and displaced residents across northern Cebu. The Philippine government deployed search and rescue teams, medical personnel, and emergency relief forces to affected areas following the disaster.
