After a massive 2024 that made BYD Group the 7th best selling auto group in the world, the company is starting 2025 super strong. The company’s passenger vehicle sales jumped 47.47% in January 2025 compared to January 2024. As a reminder, all of those vehicles are plugin vehicles (or “new energy vehicles”) that can run solely on electricity at least part of the time.
As far as fully electric vehicles, those rose by 19% for BYD — from 105,304 sales in January 2024 to 125,377 sales in January 2025. Compared to January 2023, meanwhile, BEV sales were up 76%.
While that’s solid, strong, uplifting growth for BEVs, plugin hybrids grew even more. Plugin hybrid passenger vehicle sales were up 79% in January 2025 compared to January 2024, and they were up 117% compared to January 2023.
Clearly, the electric automaker that took the world by storm in 2024 is looking to do so again in 2025. It’s now one of the top 10 automakers in the world, and it most definitely has its eyes on #1. On that matter, also see:
So, here we go. 2025 could be another big year for BYD sales growth, and EV sales growth more broadly.
