BYD’s entry into this market with an electrified model signals a potential shift in consumer preferences towards more sustainable options.
“The arrival of the BYD Shark 6 DMO signifies BYD’s continuing commitment to providing game-changing vehicles that are set to transform how we move,” Palanca adds.

The BYD Shark 6 is a plug-in hybrid electric pickup truck equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine working in concert with an electric four-wheel drive system, offering both performance and efficiency.
The Shark 6 DMO boasts an impressive power output of 321 kW and a maximum torque of 650 Nm, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 5.7 seconds. This robust performance is complemented by a substantial braked towing capacity of 2,500 kg and a payload capacity of 835 kg, making it suitable for both work and leisure.
The pickup is equipped with a 29.58 kWh BYD Blade battery, providing ample range for daily commutes and weekend adventures. Charging is made convenient with fast DC charging capabilities, allowing the battery to be charged from 30% to 80% in just two hours using a 7 kW AC charger.
Off-Road Capability
According to BYD’s press statement, the Shark “is built for adventure,” featuring a coil spring double wishbone independent rear suspension and a generous 230 mm of unladen ground clearance. With a 31° approach angle, 17° ramp over angle, and 19° departure angle, this pickup truck is ready to tackle challenging terrains.
The Dual Mode Off-road technology is a key differentiator, promising enhanced performance and efficiency compared to conventional pickup trucks. This technology, combined with the vehicle’s rugged design and advanced features, positions it as a strong contender in the market.
Additional Features
Based on the specs available from BYD, the variant of the Shark in the Philippines is the international specification with heated and ventilated front seats provide optimal comfort in any climate, while 18″ alloy wheels add a touch of style. The Vehicle to Load (V2L) function allows the vehicle to power external devices, making it ideal for outdoor activities and emergencies. Selectable terrain modes (Mud, Sand, and Snow) optimize performance in various driving conditions. Safety is enhanced with features like Hill Hold Control, Vehicle Dynamic Control, Hill Descent Control, and Auto-Hold.
BYD’s strategic move to introduce the Shark 6 DMO in the Philippines aligns with the country’s growing interest in electric vehicles and the government’s push towards sustainable transportation solutions. The company’s recent launches of the Seal 5 DM-i sedan and the Sealion 6 DM-i SUV further demonstrate its commitment to expanding its electric vehicle portfolio in the country.
The official launch of the BYD Shark 6 DMO is scheduled for March, and industry observers are keen to see how this electrified model will impact the Philippine pickup truck market. Its success could pave the way for wider adoption of electric vehicles in the country, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable automotive future.
