144 new chargers will be installed in premium locations throughout Mexico. Customers in Mexico who choose to purchase a BMW i4 will earn energy credits for charging without charge.

Mexico City — BMW Group Mexico, with the aim of continuing to promote electric mobility in Mexico, has consolidated a new strategic alliance with VEMO, which joins other strategic allies in order to amplify the charging structure on public roads for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in the country. The action is part of an investment of €724,000, or $15 million pesos, made by BMW Group in Latin America to expand the offer of chargers on public roads in the region. This investment will be reflected in 251 new chargers on public roads distributed in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Panama and Peru.

“In the year that we celebrate 30 years in Mexico, we also celebrate a decade of selling purely electric cars in our country. We are the premium company with the widest range of battery-powered models, whether purely electric or plug-in hybrids, with 11 models from BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad,” said Diego Camargo, CEO of BMW Group Mexico. “In addition to more than 33 thousand personal or corporate chargers installed in our clients’ homes or companies, we will not stop supporting the infrastructure in public networks in our country through local alliances,” he concluded.

The campaign in Mexico includes the installation of 144 new chargers in a minimum of 20 premium locations, such as restaurants, shopping centers, hotels, offices, among others, in various cities throughout the country. These new charging points are added to the more than 500 that are part of the VEMO network and that BMW Group Mexico customers will have access to.

Germán Losada, co-founder, President and COO of VEMO, said: “The transition towards electromobility is already a reality. Our business model is at the forefront of this change by establishing an integrated mobility solution in Mexico, and one of the few in the world. This partnership with BMW Group Mexico is a great example of how by joining forces we can significantly pave the way to accelerate the adoption of electromobility.”

This alliance strengthens the comprehensive strategy available to the company’s electrified vehicle customers. Every BMW and MINI sold is accompanied by a personal or corporate charger. To date, we have more than 33,000 charging points at the homes or offices of our customers in Mexico. This action complements pioneering initiatives such as the construction of the first electric highway in Mexico, connecting Mexico City to San Luis Potosi, and an alliance made with Evergo for access to charging points made the previous year.

Roberto Rocha, co-founder and CEO of VEMO, highlighted: “This agreement strengthens the expansion plan for VEMO’s public charging network, the most robust and reliable in Mexico. We are excited to collaborate with BMW Group Mexico, a leader in the automotive sector, to jointly promote the development of electromobility in the country. We are firmly committed to leading this change towards a future with more sustainable and clean mobility.”

To celebrate the expansion, between August and December, every customer who purchases a BMW i4 will receive 8,000 km (equivalent to $10,000 pesos) as a courtesy energy credit, which translates into an average of 200 days of free charging on an approximate daily route of 40 km, to be consumed throughout the VEMO network.

Among the benefits of this alliance, for electric vehicle users who buy their BMW and MINI cars starting in October, VEMO energy credits will be included in the purchase of the same. The new charging positions are already available in the Watts by VEMO app, where in addition to locating said charging points, users can monitor the consumption and energy charge in their vehicles; as well as make the payment for it.
