BHP non-executive director exits

Major miner BHP has announced the retirement of independent non-executive director Terry Bowen.

It was confirmed that Bowen will not stand for re-election at BHP’s 2023 annual general meeting scheduled for November 1.

He has been with BHP since October 2017, and as non-executive director Bowen was chair of the risk and audit committee and a member of the nomination and governance committee.

After retiring as BHP non-executive director, Bowen will join global e-commerce technology company Rokt as its president and chief operating officer.

BHP chair Ken MacKenzie thanked Bowen for his contribution to the company board and for creating value for its shareholders.

“Terry’s deep financial, risk management, capital allocation and supply chain management experience has been highly valued by the BHP board and he has been committed to BHP’s ongoing success,” MacKenzie said.

“We wish Terry success in his executive role and all the best for the future. Our approach to board succession planning is continuous and we will continue to apply a structured approach to ensure the board is fit for purpose and will provide an update on the succession of the risk and audit committee chair in due course.”

Last week, BHP and Rio Tinto announced the Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) program, which involved both miners collaborating to offer quick emergency medical response through the Pilbara region in Western Australia.
