BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) has partnered with the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) to support elite athletes in building careers beyond competition.
The collaboration will boost QAS’ Dream Twice initiative, which helps athletes pursue meaningful employment while still competing or after retirement.
The new partnership reflects BMA’s investment in people who bring unique strengths to the workforce.
“Athletes – with their discipline, drive and resilience – bring the kind of thinking and energy that make them great members of our diverse teams,” BMA asset president Adam Lancey said.
“As Brisbane starts preparing for 2032, we’re excited to support the development of our athletes and provide opportunities beyond sport. I am excited to see what this partnership will deliver, in and out of the sporting arena.”
While Olympic diver Maddison Keeney joined BHP before the Dream Twice program launched, her dual-career path highlights the kind of success the initiative hopes to replicate.
Keeney joined BHP in 2021 and now works as a coal mining systems specialist in fleet management systems.
“Diving will always be part of me, but working at BHP has helped me realise I can have more than one identity. It’s a world I never imagined being in, but I love the challenge,” Keeney said.
Keeney said her role offers the flexibility needed to maintain her elite training schedule while developing skills in a high-performance work environment.
“As athletes, we’re used to pressure, working in teams, and always pushing ourselves. It’s amazing how much that mindset translates into the workplace,” she said.
As preparations for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games are fast-tracked in Brisbane, the announcement highlights a growing focus on athlete wellbeing and long-term career support.
