Australian Vanadium Limited (AVL) has received approval from the Western Australian Minister for Environment, Reece Whitby, for its Gabanintha Vanadium Project, now part of the Australian Vanadium Project.
The EPA approval covers a development envelope at the northern end of the orebody, including Mining Lease M51/883.
This approval, under section 45 of the Environmental Protection Act 1986, is a significant step for AVL’s subsidiary, Technology Metals Australia, in advancing the Australian Vanadium Project.
The approval is subject to conditions outlined in Ministerial Approval Statement Number 1242, which align with the initiatives proposed by Technology Metals Australia and are acceptable to AVL.
This decision allows for the development of the original Gabanintha Vanadium Project, including a mine, concentrator, processing plant and essential infrastructure.
AVL CEO Graham Arvidson said: “This approval marks a major milestone for the company, advancing the project towards construction and production while strengthening our confidence in securing the remaining approvals needed to move forward with the consolidated Australian Vanadium Project.

“We are grateful to the Government of Western Australian and Minister Whitby for their support in this critical approval for the project. We also reaffirm our commitment to building positive long-term relationships with all of our community stakeholders.”
AVL is working on an optimised feasibility study to integrate the Gabanintha Vanadium Project into the broader Australian Vanadium Project.
The Australian Vanadium Project is said to be one of the largest and highest-grade vanadium deposits being developed globally.
The property lies in the Murchison Province, around 43km south of the mining town of Meekatharra in the Tier-1 mining jurisdiction of Western Australia.
This integration aims to create a larger consolidated project with enhanced economic outcomes.
The project will feature an open-cut mine and concentrator at Gabanintha and a vanadium oxide processing plant at Tenindewa.
The project plans to produce vanadium concentrate at the Gabanintha site and high-purity vanadium oxides and iron concentrate co-products at the Tenindewa plant for export through Geraldton port.
AVL is also working to secure EPA approvals for the southern end of the orebody, covering mining leases M51/878, M51/884, and mining lease application M51/897.
The southern end, identified for its higher vanadium and iron concentrate grades, is the preferred location for initial mining.
AVL’s strategy aligns with the Australian Government’s Future Made in Australia plan, supporting the transition to a net-zero economy and boosting domestic manufacturing.
