AustEx X1550TH: redefining safety and efficiency in diamond drilling

Ausdrill, a member of the Perenti group of companies, introduces the AustEx X1550, a next-generation diamond drill rig that combines cutting-edge safety features with advanced operational efficiency.

Deployed in the Pilbara and Goldfields regions, this fully integrated electric-over-hydraulic rig sets a new industry benchmark in safe, remote-controlled drilling.

Safety central to the design of the AustEx X1550, the drilling platform includes a cage barrier system that isolates rig and sloop functions upon entry, creating a true zero-energy workspace.

This allows the driller’s offsiders to perform tasks in a completely de-energised environment, significantly reducing risks.

To enhance safety further, the rig’s Freedom Loader sloop is equipped with a virtual exclusion zone barrier.

Using AI cameras with human recognition capabilities, this barrier halts sloop functions if personnel enter the active area, ensuring a safer workspace in real-time.

Efficiency and automation are equally paramount in the AustEx X1550, the rig handles rods and inner tubes with minimal manual intervention, including hands-free operations for hole collaring, casing, and rod handling.

The system is designed to deliver the inner tube directly to the processing racks, with manual input needed only to change the overshot and process the core.

This seamless integration of the pusher sub into the drill spindle optimises productivity while reducing physical strain on operators.

The rig is powered by Cortex’s advanced rig control system, which enables unparalleled remote monitoring and control capabilities.

Through Cortex, operators can view live data points from the drill rig from any location worldwide. This data is not only accessible in real time but is also stored for further analysis, empowering clients to optimise the drilling process and maximise output.

The AustEx X1550 is designed to efficiently handle demanding conditions, featuring an impressive 9.5 metres of mast travel and a 9-metre coring capability in a single pass.

Its operational angles range from -90 degrees to -50 degrees, making it versatile for various applications.

From automated setup and pack-up to hands-free rod pulling, every aspect of the rig is built for safety, precision, and ease of use.

With its blend of innovative safety features, remote monitoring capabilities, and high-performance design, the AustEx X1550 exemplifies Ausdrill’s commitment to advancing the future of diamond drilling.

This rig stands as a powerful tool for clients who prioritise both productivity and a robust approach to workforce safety.
