Australia-based advanced gold ore producer Theta Gold has announced the full permitting of Mining Right (MR) 83 for mining operations.
MR 83 encompasses the Beta, CDM and Frankfort Mines, integral to the company’s definitive feasibility study mining schedule.
The company has now obtained all requisite approvals to commence mining activities.
These include an atmospheric emissions licence, an explosives licence for both transport and usage, a forrest licence and environmental authorisation for MR 83. Additionally, it secured a water use licence, which is critical to mining operations.
Further to these approvals, Theta Gold also received a heritage record of decision.
The company has fulfilled the requirements for an environmental rehabilitation guarantee and updated the social and labour plan for MR 83, demonstrating its commitment to responsible mining practices.

In September last year, MR 83 faced an objection against its environmental approvals during a 90-day public review period.
This objection, raised by one individual from more than 900 public and private stakeholders, was subsequently dismissed by the Department of Forest Fishery and Environment (DFFE) and other related departments.
As a condition for the lifting of the objection, Theta Gold is required to conduct quarterly borehole and downstream water testing.
Theta Gold chairman Bill Guy said: “I am pleased to confirm that MR 83 has received full permits, completing a major condition precedent for potential project financing previously reported.
“The company will now focus on finalising funding packages and working with our selected EPC [engineering, procurement and construction] contractor to build the gold plant. This is a major development for Theta and pave[s] the way for us to now commence mining operations and realise the full value of the asset for shareholders, the local community, our employees and other valued stakeholders.
“As part of MR 83 Licence, Theta has proposed a robust ESG [environmental, social and governance] programme to restore the hydrology of the local catchment. The river system is directly linked to the livelihood of over 20,000 farmer employees and the famous Kruger National Park.”
