Caterpillar expands zero-exhaust emissions solutions

Caterpillar and CRH have signed a strategic agreement for the supply of electric off-highway trucks and charging solutions.

Under the agreement, Caterpillar will deploy its 70 to 100-tonne-class battery electric off-highway trucks and charing solutions at a CRH site in North America.

CRH will also participate in Caterpillar’s Early Learner program to test and validate the units in real-world applications. The company will also provide customer feedback to address safety, performance, and operational and compliance requirements.

“We are pleased to work with CRH, as our first aggregates industry customer, to expand our electrification solutions beyond mining,” Caterpillar Group president Denise Johnson said.

“When it comes to sustainability, the quarry and aggregates industry requires diverse solutions. Our collaboration with CRH is an exciting opportunity to learn together and gain valuable insights into how our products can best support CRH’s long-term objectives to decarbonise its operations.”

The collaboration will also support CRH’s goal of reducing greenhouse has emissions from its operations. Its target is to deliver a 30 per cent reduction in absolute carbon emissions by 2030, with a net-zero goal of 2050.

“At CRH, we recognise that collaboration and innovation are critical to delivering our industry-leading decarbonisation targets and achieving our ambition of net-zero by 2050,” CRH Americas Materials Solutions president Scott Parson said.

“Through this partnership with Caterpillar, we will advance the use of sustainable equipment in our operations and build on our shared commitment to a low-carbon future.”
