Worley has been contracted to provide engineering, procurement and construction management services at the Balranald critical minerals project.
Located in the Riverina district of New South Wales, Balranald is owned by Iluka Resources and is set to deliver approximately 250 jobs during construction and 270 jobs during operation.
Worley’s Australian team will work closely with Global Integrated Delivery teams in India to develop the design and manage the construction of the process plant and associated infrastructure.
“Worley has over 50 years of experience designing and executing mining projects and we look forward to working Iluka to deliver the project safely and sustainably to meet Iluka’s development goals and work towards our purpose of delivering a more sustainable world,” Worley chief executive officer Chris Ashton said.
Balranald will be developed using Iluka’s remotely operated, underground mining technology to enable access to ore bodies previously considered uneconomic.
This technology will also allow for less disturbance and lower carbon intensity relative to traditional extraction techniques.
Iluka completed the definitive feasibility study at Balranald in late 2022 and the board approved the final investment decision for the site in February of this year.
