Hongqi announced that its newest flagship electric vehicles, the E-H7 sedan and E-HS7 SUV, have both secured the maximum 5-star safety rating from the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP). This achievement builds upon the safety record of the brand, whose larger E-HS9 model had previously earned the same top rating. The vehicles were launched in the Philippines earlier.
This announcement came in a press briefing with Hongqi Philippines.
Detailed safety test findings
To secure the top 5-star rating, both the E-H7 and E-HS7 were subjected to Euro NCAP’s rigorous and extreme testing challenges. These included high-speed collision scenarios where sample vehicles underwent simulated front and rear collisions at speeds reaching up to 100 km/h, followed by dedicated side-impact assessments. In these critical tests, the cars successfully protected occupants, demonstrating no significant deformation of the car’s structural pillars and confirming that airbags deployed exactly as designed.
Beyond collision dynamics, the models were put through highly demanding stress tests, such as a compression test simulating a massive object falling onto the vehicle; this test applied a force equivalent to nearly 7.8 tons onto the panoramic glass roof, resulting in minimal structural deformation and leaving ample survival space for occupants.
Furthermore, the E-H7 and E-HS7 successfully navigated several extreme environmental assessments for non-collision resistance, including a water submersion test to determine resistance to flood damage and leakages, as well as separate tests for smoke, explosion, and fire, all of which were passed without dire incident.
Executive commentary and market context
“As faithful Hongqi owners know, the moment you step into a Hongqi vehicle, you immediately enter a world of luxury both inside and out. But feeling comfortable and looking great on the road mean nothing when a vehicle isn’t safe. That’s why our ultimate priority has always been the protection of all passengers, drivers, and even pedestrians, whenever someone takes the wheel of an E-H7 or E-HS7,” Rashid Delgado, President of Hongqi PH and EVOxTerra, and Co-CEO of TDG, told members of the media as he addressed the significance of the results directly.
“Te 5-Star Euro NCAP rating is an affirmation of Hongqi’s commitment to passenger safety,” he added.
The rating is cited as proof of design and build quality capable of addressing common road safety concerns, including typical road accidents, challenging road conditions, and flood scenarios. In addition to paramount safety, the electric models were highlighted for their performance specifications for the Philippine market: the Hongqi E-H7 Sedan starts at P2,280,000 ($38,000) and offers an impressive single-charge driving range of 650 km, while the E-HS7 SUV starts at P2,580,000 ($44,000) and provides a single-charge driving range of 540 km.
