What began as a technical collaboration with Japan now marks a milestone for Chilean engineering: Komatsu India has integrated the DTSA haul truck dump body, designed by Chilean engineers, into its fleet of HD785 trucks for the first time, opening up new opportunities in the South Asian and Middle Eastern markets.
The first delivery included 15 dump bodies manufactured in Indonesia, destined for a major mining operation in India. Following the positive reception of the design, a second delivery of another 15 units has already been confirmed, reflecting the customer’s confidence in a solution developed in Chile, valued for its lightness, capacity, and durability. The truck body allows for transporting more material without having to modify the truck’s configuration, offering improved efficiency and performance.
“The most important thing is not just opening the door, but keeping it open. We’re in a bigger league and must continue to demonstrate quality and reliability,” says Carlos Baeza, Sales and Engineering Manager.
Thanks to this success, Komatsu plans to manufacture all of its DTSA dump bodies directly in India, from where they will supply both the local market and the Middle East. The Chennai plant even had to be expanded to adapt to the Chilean design requirements, demonstrating the impact of this innovation.
Komatsu said the achievement not only consolidates the company’s internationalisation strategy but also positions Chilean engineering as a global benchmark in solutions for large-scale mining. “Beyond iron, what we are exporting is technology made in Chile, validated by its efficiency, safety, and responsiveness,” concludes Baeza.
