The new Chevy Bolt only costs $29,990, including the destination charge. There are other trims or “packages” that cost more. It has a 65 kWh usable LFP battery that can be charged from 10% to 80% in 26 minutes. Fortunately, it does have one-pedal driving as well. SuperCruise is an option, and there is no frunk. We’ve written about the new Bolt here, but below is a video about it if you prefer that format and want to see more.
The estimated range according to GM is 255 miles. Though, it has not been EPA-rated yet. The video reviewer says he thinks the GM estimate could be conservative.
For the older Bolts, the main issue was the slow charge rate, which meant that long trips could be a pain or quite a pain. The new Bolt’s peak charging rate is up to 150 kW, so it’s much faster than the original Bolt.
The instrumentation and main console screen look reasonably arranged and integrated. The console screen is not an obtrusive flat screen that looks somewhat oddly placed like a laptop or desktop screen attached to a car’s dashboard.
The original Bolt did a good job as an affordable people mover, but the slow charging was a deal breaker for some. It appears GM did something smart by preserving the original car’s form factor but increasing the charging rate and lowering the price. So, it’s potentially an even better affordable people mover — which is also fully electric. This type of vehicle is exactly what some people have been clamoring for. Considering how much owners of the current Bolts like them, the new Bolt could be quite a success for GM.
