BYD didn’t have the best month last month, with its overall passenger car sales down 5.9% in the month year over year. That was its first monthly decline in quite a while. Though, the good news is that the company’s full electric vehicle (BEV) sales did rise. They were up 24.3% year over year in August. Below are charts (static and interactive) on these two topics before we move on to another.
Okay, so, what does that mean if BYD’s BEV sales are up quite a bit but its overall passenger vehicle sales are down? That means that plugin hybrids are down, by quite a bit. They declined 25.6% in August compared to August 2024.
So, overall, it’s not a great picture for BYD looking at August. However, at least the company’s BEV sales are up. For more nuance and insights, we’ll have to lean on Larry Evans, who tracks the company better than anyone I know. Stay tuned for more from him.
