We had huge EV sales growth from Chevrolet and Cadillac in the 3rd quarter, but then a letdown in EV sales from Nissan and Kia. I figured the latter meant that Hyundai’s EV sales would also be poor. But I was wrong!

Let’s look at the numbers for the Hyundai IONIQ 5 first:

  • 8,408 sales in September 2025, +152% from 3,336 sales in September 2024
  • 21,999 sales in Q3 2025, +90% from 11,590 sales in Q3 2024
  • 41,091 sales in first 9 months of 2025, +36% from 30,318 sales in first 9 months of 2025

Overall, no matter how you cut the numbers, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 has seen solid, strong growth in 2025, but that was especially the case in September, and the 3rd quarter as a whole.

How about the IONIQ 6?

  • 814 sales in September 2025, +36% from 599 sales in September 2024
  • 2,810 sales in Q3 2025, +29% from 2,185 sales in Q3 2024
  • 9,132 sales in first 9 months of 2025, +0% from 9,097 sales in first 9 months of 2025.

… And the IONIQ 9?

  • 1,075 sales in September 2025, versus 0 (zero) sales in September 2024
  • 3,164 sales in Q3 2025, versus 0 (zero) sales in Q3 2024
  • 4,177 sales in first 9 months of 2025, versus 0 (zero) sales in first 9 months of 2025.

So, IONIQ 6 sales were up a bit in recent months, but are still just about even compared to 2024. Every sale the IONIQ 9 gets means Hyundai EV growth, however, since the model wasn’t on the market yet at this time last year. That said, neither of these two models are close in volume to the IONIQ 5.

So, overall, Hyundai’s EV growth looks pretty good — great if you just look at September or the 3rd quarter, but pretty mild if you look at the first 9 months of the year as a whole. In the 3rd quarter, Hyundai EV sales were up 103.1% year over year. Across the first 9 months of the year, the brand’s EV sales were up 38%.

Let’s see what happens in the rest of the year.

Oh, and by the way, on that note, here’s a key update from Hyundai: “Hyundai reduces 2026 IONIQ 5 pricing by up to $9,800; $7,500 cash incentive carries over for 2025 IONIQ 5 models.” Here’s more from Randy Parker, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor North America: “As we move into October, we’re introducing new programs to keep our vehicles accessible, such as repositioning the 2025 IONIQ 5 with extended $7,500 cash incentives and offering up to $9,800 in price reductions on 2026 IONIQ 5 models, reinforcing Hyundai’s legacy of delivering exceptional value and support. While the $7,500 EV credit has expired, our electrification strategy has always extended beyond incentives. We invested in EV innovation well before the IRA and remain steadfast in our commitment to affordability, quality, and customer care.”
