Quite young Chinese EV company Leapmotor has just reached a major milestone. It has produced its one millionth car — all plugin vehicles, of course, but not all BEVs. The company also started delivering EREVs in 2023.
Leapmotor is just under 10 years old, founded in December 2015. One million vehicles in 10 years is not too shabby. But here’s the much bigger news than the 1-million-vehicle milestone: the company produced its 500,000th vehicle just 343 days ago. That means it has doubled its total output and produced half a million electric cars in less than one year!
The company produced its first vehicle in 2019 (not long before COVID-19 hit, unfortunately), and produced its 100,000th vehicle in June 2022. On October 17, 2024, Leapmotor produced its 500,000th vehicle.
No matter how you look at it, Leapmotor’s growth has been phenomenal.
Leapmotor sells only BEV versions of the T03, B10, and B01 in China, but it also sells BEV and EREV versions of the C01, C10, C11, and C16.
Leapmotor was expecting to sell 500,000–600,000 vehicles this year, but last month the company raised that target to 580,000–650,000 vehicles.
In addition to its high sales in China, the company’s overseas sales have also been soaring. In fact, the company just went ahead and bought its first ocean vessel for vehicle shipments.
And get this: next month, the company plans to launch its first D-series model, the D19. The SUV will be unveiled on October 16. “Over the next three years, the company will fill the RMB 60,000 to RMB 300,000 market segment with 13-14 models across its A, B, C, and D series, Zhu said last December,” CnEVPost writes. “Leapmotor delivered 57,066 vehicles in August, marking its fourth consecutive month of record-high deliveries, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.”
In a market where there are several very successful, impressive EV producers, Leapmotor still stands out as one of the most exciting and fastest growing. It appears to be in a head-to-head battle with XPENG for the title of best selling young EV company (that’s excluding BYD, of course, which isn’t even that old when you look at the big picture).
