Leapmotor Gets Its Own Ocean Vessel For Vehicle Shipments – CleanTechnica

As we’ve reported recently, BYD’s ocean vessel fleet for shipping its EVs around the world just keeps growing. BYD recently launched its 7th vessel, and also just delivered its first batch of vehicles to the Philippines (1,500). BYD has clearly taken the lead on this, like many things, but now more companies are getting in on the fun. Leapmotor is now joining in.

Leapmotor keeps popping into the news in a good way. While other brands have gotten much more press, at least here in the West, Leapmotor is now a company that is really excelling and deserves more of a nod. It is one of four Chinese EV brands that’s seeing soaring overseas sales, especially in Europe.

Regarding its new ocean-faring vessel, the ship will reportedly deliver 2,500 cars to Europe on its first voyage. Its total capacity will be a bit above that.

The vessel has been named the Grande Tianjin and is being chartered by Grimaldi Group. Grimaldi has been Leapmotor’s logistics partner for overseas deliveries since 2022.

Leapmotor is launching the B10 next month, a compact electric SUV. Presumably, these will make up a lot of Leapmotor’s future deliveries. In China, where it was launched in April, the B10 has a starting price of RMB 99,800 yuan ($13,900).

“Leapmotor’s business covers more than 30 countries and regions, with over 1,500 sales and service outlets worldwide and cumulative deliveries exceeding 800,000 units, said Xin Tianshu, CEO of Leapmotor International,” CnEVPost writes. Leapmotor has a joint venture with Stellantis in Europe, Leapmotor International. In October 2023, Leapmotor announced Stellantis would put €1.5 billion ($1.7 billion) into the company, acquiring about 20% stake in the Chinese EV company. So, it is not surprising that Europe is a big focus of the company.
