Discovery Silver, an Americas-focused company with assets in Canada and Mexico, has taken delivery of a Komatsu WX07 loader at its Hoyle Pond mine in Timmins, Ontario, as it looks to re-establish its Porcupine Complex as a top-tier asset in the global gold mining industry.
The Toronto-based company announced the acquisition of the Porcupine Complex in and near Timmins, Ontario back in January, progressing to a first gold pour at the end of April. It has since sold more than 2,800 oz of gold and completed a two-week mill shutdown for the purpose of replacing equipment in the thickening tanks.
The company announced this week that it had taken delivery of the new WX07 loader, a model released by the OEM in 2020.
The WX07 was developed from the ground up with a whole new chassis, Z-link kinematics, revamped powertrain and optimised ergonomic operator cabin with enhanced visibility to help boost productivity, Komatsu states. It replaces the old LT650 and is cited as ideal for small and narrow-vein mines, particularly operations using cut-and-fill methods. It has a tramming capacity of 14,990 lb (6,800 kg) and a 3.1 cu.m bucket.
