IGO has announced a series of board and executive changes, a symbol of its evolution under managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) Ivan Vella.
“Under the leadership of managing director and CEO Ivan Vella, IGO has undergone a substantial transformation – refreshing its strategy, strengthening internal systems and processes, and reshaping its corporate and exploration teams to be leaner, more agile, and better aligned with the company’s long-term vision,” IGO chair Michael Nossal said.
Following its annual review, the board will now initiate a “measured renewal and succession process”, which includes reducing the overall size of the board, transitioning the chair role, and recruiting new independent non-executive directors.
“As IGO evolves, so too must its board,” Nossal said.
“The company’s transformation has been profound, and it is only natural that the board aligns itself with the streamlined, strategic organisation that IGO has become.
“Our goal is to establish a smaller board with the right mix of skills to guide the business through its next chapter, while ensuring that the transition is carefully managed to maintain continuity of governance and retention of corporate memory.”
The board changes are designed to support IGO’s refreshed strategic direction and mission to supply critical minerals essential to the global energy transition.
The company has also appointed Suzanne (Suzy) Retallack as chief people and sustainability officer, which will take effect on September 15 and will succeed Sam Retallack.
Retallack was previously chief safety and sustainability officer at Newmont, with a career spanning roles in health, safety, environment and corporate affairs across Newmont and Rio Tinto.
“Suzy’s leadership and experience is very well suited to IGO as we pursue our renewed strategy,” Vella said.
“Suzy has substantial experience in the mining industry and deep passion for people and sustainability. I am delighted that she has chosen to join IGO at this pivotal time.”
