Liebherr-Australia has commissioned a second R 9600 excavator to join Stanmore Resources’ South Walker Creek metallurgical coal mine in Queensland.
The second R 9600 will join the Yellow Iron Fleet, which has been operating at South Walker Creek since early May.
The commissioning follows the successful delivery of the first R 9600 to South Walker Creek in September 2024.
“Seeing this R 9600 come to life and reach its destination is incredibly rewarding,” Liebherr-Australia Mackay project manager Jamie Marsden said.
“The collaboration among our team, our partners and our customers was outstanding, and every person involved went above and beyond. I couldn’t be prouder of the hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence that everyone put into these projects.”
Built to withstand demanding mining conditions, the R 9600 excavator model integrates the latest technologies and developments with its reliable undercarriage, high-performance attachments, brand new cabin and on-board assistance systems that enable mine sites to achieve high productivity in any application or setting.
Utilising a team-based approach, both R 9600 excavators for Stanmore Resources were constructed by Liebherr-Australia’s Mackay project team.
Each machine was delivered on time and on budget, with safety, performance and customer satisfaction and specification at the forefront.

Liebherr-Australia also recently repowered two R 9800 excavators at Yancoal’s Mount Thorley Warkworth coal operation in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales.
