Komatsu makes mental health a priority

Komatsu has teamed up with environmental containment specialist Teneo to kit out one of its dozers in TradeMutt colours to raise awareness about mental health in mining.

The Komatsu D375A-8 dozer travelled from Mt Thorley to Mt Piper in 2024 in bright TradeMutt colours, alongside the Teneo, Ventia and Energy Australia logos.

Teneo chief operating officer Graham McManmons said the venture is a pledge to breaking down stigma surrounding mental health and encouraging workers to speak up about their struggles.

“Mental health is a crucial topic, especially in industries like ours with high numbers of FIFO (fly-in, fly-out) workers who spend long periods away from home,” McManmons said.

“Teneo really values working alongside companies like Komatsu who are committed to fostering a culture where employees check in on each other and offer support and camaraderie among each other in challenging work environments.”

TradeMutt is well-known in the mining and construction industries for eye-catching workwear designed to start conversations about mental health, while Teneo is one of Australia’s leading environmental containment specialist, boasting over 40 years of experience.

Operating in typically male-dominated fields, Teneo understand the importance of shining a light on mental health issues and encouraging open discussions among the workforce.

“By taking this step, together we all hope to spark meaningful conversations and create a supportive workplace where mental health is a priority,” McManmons said.

“This initiative is just the beginning of a broader push to ensure workers feel seen, heard, and supported.”
