Starting in February of 2025, US Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle drivers will be able to access Tesla Superchargers in the US and Canada. That’s a big deal because there are over 20,000 such chargers and Tesla chargers have the reputation for being the most reliable and some of the fastest. Tesla Supercharger access for Canadian Mercedes-Benz EV drivers will take place later in 2025. Mercedes-Benz has also been building out its own charging network in North America.
For EV drivers who don’t have Teslas, of course it helps a lot to gain access to additional chargers, especially ones that are well placed for convenient charging and extremely reliable.
A Mercedes-Benz corporate spokesperson answered some questions about the new charging access for CleanTechnica.
Is the adapter free, or if not, what is the cost?
The Mercedes-Benz DC Fast Charging Adapter will be sold through authorized Mercedes-Benz dealerships for $185.00 USD.
Are the adapters available now, or should customers call their dealer and order one?
Customers will be notified when adapters are available to purchase, and may be purchased through authorized Mercedes-Benz dealerships.
Will Mercedes fully electric vehicles also be able to charge at Tesla chargers that are not Superchargers?
Only Tesla Superchargers will be integrated into the Mercedes me Charge network, enabling Plug and Charge operation and seamless payments through Mercedes-Benz’s own charging service.
Will Tesla Superchargers show up in Mercedes EV navigation systems?
Tesla Superchargers will be fully integrated into the Mercedes me Charge network. This means that they will be visible through the MBUX navigation system and Mercedes-Benz app. Customers must first: 1) have the Mercedes me Charge service active and 2) indicate in the Mercedes-Benz app that they have an adapter in order for any NACS-equipped charging stations, including Superchargers, to be visible through MBUX or the app.
Mercedes-Benz drivers can enjoy Plug and Charge operation at Tesla Superchargers to seamlessly start a charging session once the adapter/connector are plugged into the vehicle’s charging socket with payment taken care of through the customer’s Mercedes me Charge account at the end of the charging session. Integration into the Mercedes me Charge network also includes automatic battery pre-conditioning when routing to the charger and will include those sites in route planning with Navigation with Electric Intelligence.
Will the adapter also work for the electric Mercedes sprinter van?
Information on eSprinter compatibility with and access to Superchargers will be communicated closer to February 2025.
How many battery electric Mercedes vehicles are there in the US currently?
Starting with the introduction of the MY22 EQS Sedan, Mercedes-Benz has sold approximately 85,000 battery-electric EQ cars and SUVs in the United States as of the end of 2024.
