The US DOE has announced the selection of LIS Technologies and its subcontractor NANO Nuclear Energy as one of six awardees in the DOE’s Low-Enriched Uranium (LEU) Enrichment Acquisition Programme.
The programme, with total anticipated funding of $3.4bn, aims to strengthen the US nuclear fuel supply chain and advance nuclear technology.
LIS Technologies and NANO Nuclear, sharing common ownership and officer directorship, have built upon their existing investment and collaboration relationship established in early November 2024.
This contract is a significant step in supporting the DOE’s strategy to maintain US energy independence and reduce reliance on foreign uranium supplies.
The DOE’s initiative is crucial for the availability of LEU, necessary for the US nuclear energy infrastructure.
It supports the operation of current reactors and the development of advanced nuclear technologies, including microreactors by NANO Nuclear.

The programme’s goal is to develop a reliable domestic fuel source for present and future nuclear energy needs.
As part of the LEU Acquisition Programme, the DOE will issue task orders to the contract awardees, each with a minimum value of $2m.
LIS Technologies, acting as the prime contractor, will collaborate with NANO Nuclear to leverage its advanced nuclear solutions expertise throughout the ten-year life of the programme.
The awarded contract will see LIS Technologies overseeing the development of primary uranium enrichment processes using innovative laser technology.
Concurrently, NANO Nuclear will focus on fuel deconversion, fuel fabrication and transportation.
The partnership aims to create a vertically integrated fuel pipeline, producing both LEU and High-Assay Low Enriched Uranium, to ensure a consistent supply chain from enrichment to reactor deployment.
