XPENG is entering another major EV market. This week, it’s the UK.

For starters, XPENG will launch the G6 via distribution partner International Motors Ltd. The company will reportedly start delivering the G6 SUV to customers in the UK very soon.

XPENG notes that the UK is a priority market for the company in Europe. As we’ve reported recently, 30% of UK auto sales were plugin vehicle sales last month, 21% were pure electrics. By 2030, the UK government wants petrol (gasoline) and diesel cars to be completely phased out of new car sales.

EVs take 30.2% share in the UK

It seems XPENG has struggled in some countries to get good sales and service networks in place, but this partnership with International Motors Ltd (IML) looks to be a good solution. “With nearly 50 years of experience in vehicle distribution across the UK, Ireland, and Northern Europe, IML brings a trusted reputation and extensive market expertise, ensuring that XPENG’s high-tech electric vehicles will receive dedicated support from importation to aftersales. IML’s record of success with both established and new-to-market brands makes it an ideal partner for XPENG as it introduces its innovative vehicles to UK motorists.”

“We are delighted to formally announce a distributor partnership with XPENG. IML has been working with XPENG for some time, and this was highlighted with the UK debut of the XPENG G6 at the world-famous Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this year. This new long-term agreement demonstrates IML’s ambition to seek alliances with forward-thinking partners that share the company’s values. Both parties look forward to launching the impressive G6 to UK customers in early 2025,” William Brown, Managing Director at International Motors Ltd, added.

XPENG is already in these European markets: Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France, Iceland, Spain, and Portugal.

By 2025, XPENG aims for half of its auto sales to come from outside of the UK. It plans to be in 60 international markets by then.

“This new phase of growth marks XPENG’s dedication to driving the future of AI-defined mobility across the globe. The upcoming launch of the G6 will set a new standard in the UK, offering a premium, forward-thinking solution for consumers seeking a high-performance, environmentally friendly driving experience.” We’ll see. But I wouldn’t argue against any of this.

The UK is a hot EV market right now. How many units of the G6 could sell well there?
