Molycop expands SAG ball production with new line

Molycop has officially opened a new SAG ball production line in Cilegon, Indonesia, doubling its production capacity to meet rising demand across Southeast Asia.

The new line will increase Molycop’s SAG ball production capacity from 50,000 tonnes to 100,000 tonnes, reinforcing its ability to serve customers in the region with enhanced efficiency and reliability.

In a formal event marking the milestone, Molycop chief executive officer Jim Anderson inaugurated the new production line, joined by the Australian Ambassador to Indonesia and other dignitaries.

Anderson emphasised Molycop’s long-standing commitment to Indonesia, noting that the Cilegon plant has served as a regional hub for over 25 years.

“Our investment in Cilegon and the launch of this expanded line is a testament to Molycop’s dedication to the Southeast Asian market,” Anderson said.

“Over the last 25 years, we’ve invested more than $US100 million here, reflecting our confidence in the resilience and growth potential of Indonesia’s industrial sector. This new SAG ball line will further strengthen our regional presence and support for the mining industry.”

Alongside the Cilegon expansion, Molycop recently acquired the Cikande Plant, Indonesia’s first high-chrome grinding media facility to be 100 per cent Molycop-owned.

This acquisition not only strengthens Molycop’s market position but also brings 75 new employees into the Molycop Indonesia team, diversifying its product offerings and regional reach.

Molycop’s ongoing success in Indonesia is rooted in its commitment to local sourcing, community support, and fostering workforce talent.

“Our community and workforce are at the heart of our growth strategy,” Anderson said. “We extend our deepest gratitude to our employees, customers, and local partners, including Freeport, whose support and collaboration have been instrumental in making this expansion possible.”

Molycop’s investments in Indonesia underscore its vision for a resilient future in mining, benefiting both the industry and the local communities it serves.
