Lilium N.V. (Nasdaq: LILM), a leading electric aircraft manufacturer and pioneer in Regional Air Mobility (RAM), today announced that its principal German subsidiaries will apply for self-administration proceedings in the next few days with the competent court in Germany. This follows a lengthy and complex government approval process for a loan from KfW, which failed in the Budget Committee of the German parliament.

Lilium’s international competition is receiving grants and loans in the U.S., France, China, Brazil, and the UK. Therefore, German government support was seen by Lilium investors as critical to retain market confidence and potential future investment.

“Our plan was to obtain shareholder investment in a new funding round anchored by a German government backed loan of €100 million,” Lilium CEO Klaus Roewe said. “We had already conditionally secured additional private capital to complement the KfW loan. However, the Budget Committee was unable to agree on the loan and Bavaria couldn’t do it alone.”

German government support of the KfW loan was a closing condition to already committed private funding and without this support Lilium was left with no alternative but to cause the principal German subsidiaries to file for self-administration.. Read Press Release

Toyota Motor Corporation (hereafter, Toyota) and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (hereafter, NTT) have agreed to a joint initiative in the field of mobility and AI/telecommunications with the aim of realizing a society with zero traffic accidents. Through their previous collaborations, the two companies have confirmed that they share common values, such as contributing to society through technological and industrial development, a people-centered approach, and global contributions that start in Japan. This time, they will further deepen their collaboration with the aim of achieving a “society with zero traffic accidents” as the first step towards realizing a prosperous mobility society where safety and freedom are in harmony.

In order to achieve a society with zero traffic accidents, it is necessary to take an infrastructure-cooperative approach that constantly connects people, mobility and infrastructure, in addition to the advancement of driving support technology based on data-driven technology in cars and the development of future automated driving technology.

To achieve both of these things, Toyota is developing Software Defined Vehicles (SDV) with safety and security as the top priority. Alongside the evolution of SDV, it will become more important to build infrastructure such as a high-speed, high-quality communication infrastructure, an AI infrastructure that can collect and intelligently process vast amounts of information, and a computing infrastructure.

In this collaboration, NTT, whose strengths lie in the telecommunications, and Toyota will jointly build a “Mobility AI Platform” that combines a seamless communications infrastructure with AI and computing platforms that can intelligently process large amounts of data. By doing so, they aim to connect people, mobility, and infrastructure to realize a safe, secure, and sustainable mobility society with no traffic accidents. Read Press Release

To address the urgent issue of climate change, the Minister for Climate and the Environment of Sweden, the Minister of Science of Colombia, Saab, EAFIT University in Colombia and KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden present a new Combat Climate Change (C-3) UAV Project, which aims to facilitate climate research.

A successful collaboration project between EAFIT University in Colombia, KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, and Saab has resulted in a new unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) able to collect data for climate monitoring. The project was officially launched in the framework of COP16, by Romina Pourmokhtari, Minister for Climate and the Environment of Sweden, Yesenia Olaya, Minister of Science of Colombia, Eva Axelsson, Head of Group Sustainability at Saab, and Olga Lucía Quintero, academic supervisor for the project by EAFIT.

“We are pleased to announce this landmark initiative, which not only exemplifies the robust cooperation between Colombia and Sweden but also celebrates our shared commitment to technological innovation for environmental protection and monitoring,” says the Minister for Climate and the Environment of Sweden, Romina Pourmokhtari.

The unmanned aerial vehicle will be equipped with specialised sensors and will be deployed to measure greenhouse gas concentrations, such as carbon dioxide and methane, as well as other pollutants and aerosols in the atmosphere. Furthermore, the UAV can be deployed to assess the health of the Amazon rainforest, agricultural lands, and other ecosystems, detecting any changes in vegetation patterns and soil conditions.

By correlating these measurements with ground images taken by the aircraft, the mission seeks to complement existing satellite data. The ultimate objective is to apply the measured concentrations within large-scale mathematical and AI-based prediction models, which can help better understand and manage the complexities of our global climate system. .
