EQ Resources secures Queensland funding

EQ Resources has secured $250,000 through Queensland’s mining equipment, technology and services (METS) collaborative project fund.

The funding will support advanced X-ray transmission (XRT) ore sorting trials aimed at assessing the redevelopment potential of the historic Wolfram Camp tungsten mine.

The collaborative project involves partnerships with Tomra Sorting and the University of Queensland’s Sustainable Minerals Institute (SMI).

Tomra will provide industrial XRT sorters, leveraging its expertise from previous projects at EQR’s Mt Carbine mine in Queensland and Barruecopardo mine in Spain.

SMI will provide geometallurgical analysis, focusing on tungsten and molybdenum deposits, to ensure the effectiveness of the sorting technology.

“By leveraging advanced ore sorting and geometallurgical techniques, we’re breathing new life into this historic asset while supporting Queensland’s critical minerals strategy,” EQ Resources chief executive officer Kevin MacNeill said.

“This funding is key to advancing our strategy at Wolfram Camp, as part of our Queensland tungsten cluster, enabling us to deploy cutting-edge technologies and expertise to unlock the sites’ potential.”

The project aligns with the Queensland Government’s Critical Minerals Strategy, which seeks to re-commercialise former mines and bolster the state’s resources sector.

The trial is expected to overcome previous inefficiencies at the Wolfram Camp, potentially leading to a full redevelopment of the site.

This initiative forms part of EQR’s broader plan to create a tungsten cluster in north Queensland, strengthening Australia’s critical minerals supply chain.

Wolfram Camp is located 100km southwest of EQ Resources’ operational Mt Carbine tungsten mine.

The trial, if successful, could lead to the revitalisation of the historic mining region, driving regional economic growth and supporting Queensland’s push for a sustainable minerals industry.

This investment reflects EQR’s commitment to innovation, strengthening the global critical minerals supply chain and responsible exploration as it continues to expand its tungsten assets in Australia and Spain.
