JAC Philippines, under the umbrella of multinational mobility provider Astara, officially launched the all-new Ytterby electric vehicle (EV) on September 26, 2024. The event took place at the newly inaugurated dealership in Pasig, some 12 km (8 miles) from downtown Manila, marking the brand’s latest contribution to the growing electric vehicle market in the Philippines.
Tonette Lee, Brand Head of JAC Philippines, emphasized the significance of the Ytterby’s introduction, underscoring the carmaker’s 60 years of engineering experience as one of the pioneering automobile producers in China.
“The launch of the all-new Ytterby is timely as EVs steadily become more mainstream in the Philippines due to their ability to provide clean and cost-efficient mobility,” she said. Lee further highlighted the affordability of the new model. “With the launch of the all-new Ytterby, leading edge does not have to mean out of reach,” Lee said in a press statement.
Astara Philippines Country Manager and CEO Luis Torres Bruzon echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the introduction of the Ytterby represents JAC Philippines’ entry into the electrification era. He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to offering a wide range of well-priced vehicles, including electric models, to Filipino consumers.
“Bubble Aesthetics” & Advanced Technology
First previewed at the 2024 Manila International Auto Show, the all-new Ytterby’s design is based on JAC’s “Bubble Aesthetics” philosophy. Its front end is dominated by large LED headlights and circular daytime running lights (DRLs), enhancing both visibility and energy efficiency. This lighting system is designed to increase safety, particularly during nighttime or adverse weather conditions, while keeping power consumption low — ideal for EVs, where energy efficiency is critical.
The Ytterby also features a 1.45-meter skylight made with JAC’s laminated Low-E glass, which minimizes heat gain and UV radiation, providing a more comfortable cabin environment in the tropical Philippine climate. This glass technology reduces the load on the vehicle’s climate-control system, further optimizing energy consumption.
The vehicle’s side profile is accentuated by tri-color petal wheels and electrically retractable door handles, which not only enhance its aesthetic appeal but also improve aerodynamics. At the rear, blacked-out D-pillars, a tailgate spoiler, and large square LED taillights contribute to its distinct look.
EV Range & Performance
The all-new Ytterby is available in two variants: the Air 405 and the PRO 505. The Air 405 is equipped with a 41-kWh battery that delivers a maximum range of 405 kilometers on the CLTC cycle, powered by a 94-horsepower electric motor with 135 Newton-meters of torque. Meanwhile, the PRO 505 offers a larger 51.5-kWh battery, extending its range to 505 kilometers, with a power increase to 134 horsepower and 175 Newton-meters of torque.
Charging technology is a key feature of the Ytterby. Using a DC fast charger, the battery can be recharged from 30% to 80% in just 30 minutes. For home charging, a 7-kWh charger is included, which takes between 7.5 to 9 hours for a full charge depending on the variant.
JAC has also integrated a smart entry and startup system, allowing the vehicle to automatically power on when the driver is nearby and unlocks the door. This technology simplifies the driving experience, aligning with JAC’s focus on convenience and innovation.
Lightweight & Efficient Drive System
One of the standout technical features of the all-new Ytterby is its 9-in-1 Electric Drive System. This system integrates nine critical components — such as the motor, motor controller, and power distributor — into one compact unit. This integration not only saves space, allowing for a roomier interior, but also reduces the vehicle’s weight by 40%, making it up to 94% more efficient than comparable EVs. This lighter weight and efficient design help the vehicle achieve energy consumption as low as 10 kWh per 100 kilometers, emphasizing JAC’s focus on sustainability and lower operating costs for EV owners.
Safety & Assisted Driving Features
Safety is a key focus of the all-new Ytterby. The vehicle earned a 5-star rating in the C-NCAP crash tests, a testament to its robust engineering. It comes standard with front, side, and curtain airbags, along with features like seatbelt-off warnings and child-restraint anchors.
The vehicle’s battery incorporates a zero-thermal-runaway honeycomb structure that ensures it remains safe even in the event of a major collision, reducing the risk of fire. The model also features a 3-in-1 intelligent braking system designed to prevent accidents. The PRO 505 variant comes with Level 2 Assisted Driving, which not only intervenes in potential collisions but also provides enhanced driving comfort during long trips.
The Future of JAC in the Philippines
During the press launch, JAC International Regional Director for Asia Pacific (LHD) Jessica Ji emphasized the importance of the Philippine market for JAC Motors’ global strategy. “As we celebrate our 60th anniversary, we are looking to the future with excitement and optimism,” she said, highlighting the partnership with Astara as key to expanding JAC’s footprint in the country.
The Ytterby joins JAC’s diverse range of passenger and commercial vehicles, including SUVs and pickups, underscoring the brand’s broad market appeal. Also announced was the availability of the new JS2 PRO subcompact SUV, adding another accessible option for Filipino buyers looking for a balance of technology, practicality, and affordability.
The all-new Ytterby is now available at JAC dealerships across the Philippines, including the newly inaugurated JAC Pasig.
