Former Fortescue head joins new critical minerals project

Recently declared to be holding a “geo-strategically significant” new project, Tivan has welcomed new leadership from iron ore major Fortescue.

Former Fortescue head of Northern Australia Ellin Lede has joined the Tivan ranks as the mining industry turns its attention to the company’s Speewah fluorite project in Western Australia.

The project’s recent pre-feasibility study found it is expected to be a world class resource in size, grade and location, with over 10 years of mine life.

The decision to progress the project was catalysed by the inclusion of fluorite on the Critical Minerals List in December 2023.

Lede’s role will focus on advancing Tivan’s project priorities in Darwin, including at the Middle Arm sustainable development precinct.

She will focus on Tivan’s Sandover silver-lead project in the Northern Territory and contributing to government relations and stakeholder engagement for the Speewah.

Tivan also welcomed new senior geologist Michael Fuss, who will work towards establishing critical mass for Tivan’s geology capabilities in Darwin, ahead of drilling programs at the Speewah and Sandover.

Fuss brings extensive field and mine site experience, working previously at Tanami for Newmont and Mount Isa Mines for Glencore.

“The board is delighted to welcome Ellin and Michael to the team at Tivan,” Tivan executive chair Grant Wilson said.

“These hires confirm Tivan’s standing as an employer of choice, reflecting the Company’s achievements over the past year and the exciting development pathways we have established.

“We are proud to be the only active ASX listed company headquartered in Darwin, and looking forward to Ellin and Michael making durable contributions to Tivan as we move forward.”
